Laura Spears nearly missed her $3 million lottery prize. The 55-year-old woman from Oakland County, Michigan in the United States first bought a $1 million Michigan lottery ticket and then upgraded it to the $3 million ‘Megaplier’ dollars for another $1.
Spears bought the lottery on December 31 last year. “I saw an announcement on Facebook that the Mega Millions jackpot was getting quite high, so I opened my account and purchased a ticket,” Spears said, as quoted by Michigan Lottery in a January 21 press release. .
“A few days later I was looking for a missing email from someone, so I checked the spam folder in my email account,” Spears added.
She was shocked to see the mail in her spam folder. “That’s when I saw an email from the Lottery saying that I had won a prize. I couldn’t believe what I was reading, so I logged into my lottery account to confirm the message in the email. It’s still shocking to me that I actually won $3 million! Spears said.

She claimed her $3 million prize and plans to retire early and split the amount with her family.
On October 22 of last year, a family from Lake Havasu City, Arizona won the $108 million Mega Millions jackpot. The current jackpot is $376 million.
