Kendrick Lamar dropped a new single “The Heart Part 5” on Sunday, and in the video he takes on the image of various celebrities, highlighting some of the toughest moments in entertainment.
The unique video depicts a total face transformation of Lamar as he plays Will Smith, Kanye West, Jussie Smollett, Kobe Bryant, Nipsey Hussle and OJ Simpson. His quick lyrics quickly addressed the explosive scandals and tragedies that surrounded each of the artists he impersonated, as seen in the video. Lamar rapped about the most important stories that surrounded each of these celebrities and unearthed some of the biggest headlines to ever shine a light on the entertainment world.
High-quality editing was used to transform Lamar’s face into that of the other performers he was impersonating. While impersonating OJ Simpson, the video shows Lamar dropping lyrics about a “bulletproof Rover.” It was an apparent reference to the Ford Bronco that Simpson used as a getaway vehicle in the now infamous Low Speed Chase in 1994.
Standing against a maroon background, Lamar then impersonated Kanye West and discussed his work ethic, while also mentioning the subject of being bipolar.
As quickly as he became Kanye West, Lamar transformed into Jussie Smollett, saying “history repeats itself again”, and continues to reveal the lyrics, “the streets have fucked me up” . (RELATED: REPORT: Pastor sues Kanye West for alleged copyright infringement)
Lamar then dove straight into the subject of Will Smith’s Oscar slap on Chris Rock, proving his single’s release is up to date with the most recent happenings in the entertainment world. His face was altered to resemble Smith’s as he sang, “In the land where hurt people hurt more people. Fuck call it culture,” as seen in the video.
