Comedians Louis CK and Dave Chappelle earned Grammy nominations from the Recording Academy on Tuesday, despite being at the forefront of high-profile scandals.
The Academy announced its selections for those it deemed fit for nomination. CK received an offer for best comedy album with “Sincerely Louis CK”, while Chappelle scored one for best spoken word album with “8:46” – which documents a special stand-up centered on violence against black Americans amid the angst surrounding the George Floyd protests.
CK, 54 – who had previously admitted exposing himself to women after multiple accusations – immediately plunged into controversy and joked about the sexual misconduct in “Sincerely Louis CK”.
The disgraced comedian has since continued his stand-up career after taking a hiatus, headlining New York’s Hulu Theater in Madison Square Garden in August, where he performed in front of a huge sign reading “SORRY “.

As for Chappelle, he recently found himself at the heart of the social media backlash after many felt his latest Netflix special, âThe Closer,â has deeply overshadowed the transgender community.
In the wake of the special, many called for its removal by the streaming giant, and a group of Netflix employees staged a walkout in October to protest.

In response, Chappelle said, “To the transgender community, I am more than willing to give you an audience, but you won’t summon me. I don’t bow to anyone’s requests. And if you want to meet me, I will be more. than willing to do so. ”
He shared the post in a video posted to his Instagram, before adding some “conditions” that had to be met before a meeting could take place.
