Bollywood Gossip - Has Katrina Kaif dumped Salman?
Wednesday, March 26, 2008
Bollywood Gossips - Bollywood Actress Katrina Kaif finally seems to be getting away from Salman's shadow. The year 2007 was indeed special for Katrina as she is the only actress to achieve four back-to-back successes in the year in Namastey London, Apne, Partner and Welcome.

Today she has become the highest paid item girl in the industry paid a whopping 1.5 crore to shimmy in Shree Ashtavinayak’s next film Blue.

The film stars Sanjay Dutt, Akshay Kumar and Lara Dutta in lead roles.

We hear, when the production house asked her to do an item number, Kaif initially refused, as she doesn’t want the label of an item girl.

But when the makers agreed to pay her a 1.5 crore fee and offered a few more scenes, the actress accepted.

However, Balaji people were not that lucky. When they approached Katrina to do an item number for their next, C Company, the actress flatly turned it down. Money, of course, was the bone of contention. Balaji was not willing to shell out that kind of money.

But being an item with a fat pay cheque is not what she all wants, she wants to share space with someone like Hrithik.

“I don’t know if I would get an opportunity to work with him so early in my career, but he is one actor I would love to work with, no questions asked," she tells.

"The way he put his heart and soul into the character of Akbar left me speechless. I'm looking forward to working with Hrithik sometime soon.”

Of course, she is also in for an image makeover, so it is bye bye girl next doot and hello sexy siren phase for Katrina.

But this change is not just confined to her professional life. She is also delibrately distancing herself from Salman.

So when someone from media asked her Salman Khan and his ongoing flings with Brazilian supermodel Bruna Abdalah and Mahek Chahal Kat just pounced on the poor guy saying," You know, you guys need to learn that when someone is standing before you, you have to treat that person with respect."

"It's a ridiculous question, ridiculous. You guys need to learn to draw the line," she added before walking away in a huff.

Bollywood Gossips-Salman's too expensive
Wednesday, February 6, 2008
A buzz was doing the round that Salman Khan had charged producer Vivek Galani a whooping sum of Rs 35 crore for Veer! Well, to give you a background, Veer is director Anil Sharma's (of Apne fame) next venture and will be written by none other than Sallu boy himself.

Now considering he is acting as well as writing, the sum isn't unthinkable. And the same bee that buzzed about Salman's amount buzzed noisily that Anil himself has charged Rs 7 crore. This would mean that the producers would be spending 42 crore on just Salman and Sharma!

But on asking, Sharma gets defensive, "Not at all. Our scripting has just been finished. Salman and I have worked day and night in getting it perfect. But it's way too early to discuss the final figures yet," he said. Yet, it's tough to believe that. Salman being Salman would not write an entire script without

having the figures known, if not cleared. We probed more. "See Salman has become very attached to the story and is personally involved in everything about the film. He would not possibly charge such a massive amount. He can't be so impractical," he retorted.

Anil gushed further saying, " The way he has visualised the story is brilliant. His seniority and experience shines through. I am very confident that the film will do well!" Well, we wish so too. Amen.

This is the area where three other Bollywood superstars Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai and Shah Rukh Khan's wax statue are already there.

Salman will not be part of the interactive section of the museum like Brad Pitt. Salman has been authorised by the jail authorities to travel to London to unveil his wax statue on January 14.

Khan is a four-letter word that spells box-office magic
Monday, January 7, 2008
Khan is a four-letter word that spells box-office magic.

When Mangal Pandey was released in 2005, Aamir Khan was asked how long his luck would work at the box office. "At least for another 20 years," he had replied.

It looks like the actor's prophecy was spot on. And that seems to hold true for the other two Khans as well.

The year 2007 was dominated by Shah Rukh, Salman and Aamir, who delivered the biggest hits of the year. The only other actor who came close to them was Akshay Kumar with hits like Namastey London, Heyy Babyy, Bhool Bhulaiya and Welcome.

One actor who could have taken on the Khan might -- Hrithik Roshan -- did not have any release.

Aamir Khan in a still from Taare Zameen ParSo it was the Khans' playground with Shah Rukh leading the pack. The stupendous success of Om Shanti Om and Chak De! India only helped solidify his King Khan status. Salman's Partner and Aamir's directorial debut Taare Zameen Par were the other big hits from the Khan fraternity.

So exactly how does the Khan magic work?

According to Spice Marketing Communication Agency trade analyst Prabhat Chaudhary, "All these Khans are pre-liberalisation period heroes and have established a certain fan following. Their audiences and fan base have grown up with them so to watch their films is like an event for Indian families.

"There is a generation of loyalty in Indian families for the Khans and that has remained the same," he adds. "This generation just refuses to let them go. That loyalty base has not shifted to any other hero in the last so many years and that is the reason for the Khans' rule."

And so year after year, for the last 20 years, one of the Khans has always managed to deliver some of the biggest hits at the box office. If Aamir started the hit trend with the success of Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, Salman continued the run with Maine Pyaar Kiya, followed by Shah Rukh's Baazigar and Darr.

Salman Khan in a still from PartnerSalman then followed up with the smash hit Hum Aapke Hai Kaun. Not to be outdone, Shah Rukh delivered the all time hit, Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge.

And the Khan gold rush did not stop there. Up next was Aamir's Raja Hindustani followed by Sarfarosh and then the Oscar-nominated Lagaan.

Dogged by controversies galore, Salman's popularity never dipped. His film Tere Naam created a record of sorts at the box office by getting the biggest opening in 2003.

So does having a Khan surname guarantee success in Bollywood? "It is not like that," says trade analyst Vinod Mirani. "They have done good work and all three -- Aamir, Salman and Shah Rukh -- have gained from it.

"There were other Khans too in between -- Zayed, Fardeen and even Arbaaz -- but none of them clicked in a big way," he continues. "The only other Khan that clicked off late was Saif Ali Khan after Hum Tum became a big hit."

About Saif's success, Mirani says, "It is a question of sustainability in the industry. One has to sustain for long and there is a great chance that one or the other film will click for sure."

Mirani points out that Amitabh "Bachchan too had 12 flops in a row before he delivered a hit in Zanjeer. He didn't give up and tried till he succeeded. Once you succeed then a couple of flops are pardonable in the industry because you have already created a loyal fan base."

So is it just sheer doggedness that guarantees success?

According to another trade analyst, Taran Adarsh, "One has to admit the fact that all three -- Aamir, Shah Rukh and Salman -- have worked hard to become successful. They have always chosen the best scripts for their films and so also (have had)luck, which everyone needs in life."

Shah Rukh Khan in a still from Om Shanti OmSo will the same hold true for the others?

On condition of anonymity, a trade analyst points out, "Sparks were shown by Ranbir Kapoor, Shahid Kapur and even Neil Mukesh. They are good but they still have a long way to go. Till then, the Khans will rule.

"Indian families," he continues, "keep some money aside from their monthly budget to watch a Khan film and that is going on for the last 15 years. That is a worrisome trend because the film industry has not produced any new big stars."

Till it does, we have the Khans.

Ask what works for him at the box office, Salman Khan told rediff.com an interview, "It is my ability to pick up the right scripts. I am a writer's son (Salim Khan of Salim-Javed fame) and I know which film will work and that is the reason my films work.

"I can pinpoint the script that will catch the fancy of the audience and will never let it go," he added. "I put a great deal of attention on it, and therefore my films work.

"I feel everything is destiny," he continued. "If something good is written in your fate it will happen and that is what has happened to me. If I was not an actor, I would have been a painter probably."

Salman Khan to unveil statue at Tussauds
Friday, January 4, 2008
Bollywood actor Salman Khan, who has been sentenced to five years in jail for poaching, has been given permission by the Jodhpur High Court to travel to London for the unveiling of his statue at Madam Tussauds Wax Museum, his lawyer said.

Dipesh Mehta, the actor's lawyer, confirmed that he would fly to London January 14.

"He will unveil the statue the same day and return the next day," Mehta said.

Salman's wax statue will join the statues of other Bollywood stars like Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan and Aishwarya Rai.

The actor, currently out on bail, was found guilty of poaching a chinkara, an endangered species of deer, near Jodhpur in September 1998 while filming for the movie Hum Saath Saath Hain.

A lower court convicted Salman for the offence on February 17, 2007.

The Bishnoi community of Rajasthan, traditional custodians of the natural environment, had taken up the matter against Salman.

Salman did not interefere, says Anees
Tuesday, December 18, 2007

Katrina Kaif

Director Anees Bazmee has scotched rumours about actor Salman Khan interfering in girlfriend Katrina Kaif's latest film, Welcome. Bazmee remain unperturbed by the rumours and has dismissed it as loose talk.

It will be remembered that there were reports of the superstar being upset with Katrina for wearing short skirts for the film's promos. But Bazmee insists that Salman is like a good friend of his and is sure that if he was truly upset he would have definitely spoken to him about it.

Bazmee has worked with Salman in No Entry and says that the actor never interefered in that film as well. The only time that he came to the sets of Welcome was when Bazmee wanted to narrate a story to him.

As for his future plans, at the moment, Bazmee is also directing Vipul Shah's Singh Is King. which features Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif. He says that he would love to make a love story starring his favourites Ajay Devgan and Kajol. At the moment he is all primed for the release of Welcome, which takes a funny look at the mafia.

Monday, October 29, 2007

Pictures from Om Shanti Om

According to sources, Shah Rukh and Farah Khan were inspired by a song from Amitabh’s hit movie Naseeb - John, Johnny, Janardan . It is also believed that Shah Rukh’s wife Gauri Khan and friends like Karan Johar and Rohan Sippy tried hard to convince the Bachchans, but finally it was Farah who managed to convince them.

Why did Aamir Khan refuse to be part of OSO ? Aamir is not in the song. Farah Khan had approached him but he was too busy shooting his film Ghajini and wasn’t able to be a part of her film. She wish that she could bring Aamir, Shah Rukh and Salman dancing together in her film.

Wednesday, October 24, 2007
Bollywood actor Salman Khan will be appearing before the principal bench of the Rajasthan High Court in Jodhpur on Wednesday in connection with the 1998 Chinkara poaching case lodged against him.
