Bollywood News - Madhuri Dixit to receive Padma Shri Award
Monday, May 5, 2008
Madhuri Dixit will be receiving the prestigious Padma Shri Award for her contribution to the Indian India Cinema on May 10. Though Madhuri's comeback vehicle Aaja Nachle failed to create an impact at the box-office last year, the undisputable queen of Bollywood can still make many hearts flutter with her million dollar smile.

Madhuri Dixit along with her husband Dr. Nene will be coming down from Florida for the award ceremony. And, with Madhuri's birthday being just a few days away, this is going to be real celebration month for the Nene family.

One man who will surely be delighted on hearing this news is artist M.F Husain. After expressing his disappointment over the debacle of Aaja Nachle, Husain saab will now have a reason to be happy for Madhuri.

Aaja Nachle all set to roll again in UP
Saturday, December 1, 2007
Aaja Nachle, Madhuri’s much hyped comeback film had gotten itself embroiled into a ‘lyrical controversy’ just hours after its release in the state of Uttar Pradesh. The state residents were outraged stating that the filmmakers should either take the objectionable lyrics off the film, or else they will take the film off the theatres. The lines, which they found objectionable featuring in the title track of the film goes as ‘Bazaar Mein Machi Hai Maar hai, Bole Mochi Bhi Khud Ko Sunar hai’. These reportedly had offended some of the Dalit organizations. Mayawati, the Chief Minister of UP had even shot off a letter to the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh in this regard. The impact of the ban was so much that Punjab had decided to ban the movie today.

In order to avoid any further bans and troubles, Yash Raj Films acted on it immediately and deleted the two objectionable songs. The film’s director Anil Mehta said that they had made the film in good faith and something, which would not hurt any section of the society. He also apologized saying that if the film has hurt the sentiments of anyone, they are ready to delete the said lines.

Mr. Yash Chopra Chairman Yash Raj Films said "It was not our intention to hurt the feelings of any individual or community of our great nation. If we have inadvertently hurt the sentiments of anybody I apologise for the same and have taken immediate remedial action by deleting the line from the prints of Aaja Nachle from all over the country. This line has been deleted in all the theatres today. Yash Raj Films makes family oriented films and propagates Indian culture through them and would never do anything that is detrimental to the sentiments of our people."

As they say, all’s well that ends well, so what if the end contains two lines lesser than the original!

Breaking News : Curtains down for Madhuri's comeback film in UP
The Uttar Pradesh government on Friday banned Bollywood actress Madhuri Dixit's comeback film Aaja Nachle, alleging that the lyrics of a song in the movie were derogatory to Dalits.

Highly placed sources said in Lucknow that Chief Minister Mayawati had written a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh demanding that the film be banned all over the country.

The screening of the film was stopped in the state after the ban was imposed.

Chief Minister's Principal Secretary Shailesh Krishna said, "The reference to the caste is not only objectionable and humiliating but also unconstitutional and therefore the screening of the film has been banned in Uttar Pradesh."

Madhuri dons dancing shoes for "Aaja Nachle"
MUMBAI (Reuters Life!) - Madhuri Dixit, one of Bollywood's biggest stars whose dancing sizzled the screen for years, will play a choreographer who returns to her roots in a film marking her comeback to acting after six years.

At 42, Dixit's return is eagerly watched by an industry where men play romantic heroes well into their 50s but leading ladies start losing their appeal -- and roles -- by the time they reach 30 or get married.

Dixit's career began two decades ago and she quickly won recognition for her acting skills and nubile dancing.

Now married with two children and living in the United States, Dixit has lost none of her screen allure, says the director of her comeback film "Aaja Nachle", a musical with several dance scenes due to premiere next week.

"We thought it would take a little time for her to come back to her groove after six years but she proved us wrong," Anil Mehta told Reuters.

"She was always doing everything with perfection, a quality you associate Madhuri with."

Mehta said the actress, who began her career as a little-known model, is as nimble as ever, executing Western moves, Indian classical dancing or even raunchy Bollywood gyrations in mid-riff baring saris with ease.

The film tells the story of a passionate dancer who makes it big as a choreographer and moves to live in the United States.

She returns to India after hearing that her dance guru was on his deathbed and after he passes away, she devotes herself to saving a theatre where she learnt dancing as a child.

"It is her fight to save her roots from dying," Mehta said. "We could not think of any other actress to play the lead role of a film that had so many dance portions other than Madhuri."

Mehta said his team was so mesmerised with Dixit's dancing that all they did during post-production was watch the scenes of her dancing again and again.

"She is as graceful as she was and she is back with her best in the film," he said.
