Bollywood Gossip - Kismet Connection Vs Contract
Tuesday, July 15, 2008
Bollywood Gossip : After last week's releases, which include Mehbooba and Mukhbiir, proved to be damp squibs at the box office, Bollywood trade circles have now set their eyes on Kismat Konnection and Contract that are releasing this Friday.

After the poor performances of Good Luck and Rituparno Ghosh's Khela as well, both the new movies are worth looking forward to because two fine directors, Aziz Mirza and Ram Gopal Varma, are at the helm.

While Mirza is known for making light-hearted romantic fare, Varma scores when he makes gangster movies dealing with subjects related to the underworld.

As Mirza has returned to direction after five years - his last directorial venture was "Chalte Chalte" - so has Varma visited a gangster movie to direct after six years since "Company" in 2002.

Kismat Konnection has generated a lot of expectations also because this is Shahid Kapur's second release after last year's hit Jab We Met, in which he was paired with his ex-love Kareena Kapoor.

Will his kismat (luck) stays with him through the release of Kismat Konnection, sans Kareena? For Shahid-Kareena made a fantastic pair in Jab We Met. Will his pairing with Vidya Balan in Kismat Konnection work equally well for the both?

"Comparison is uncalled-for, because both Jab We Met and Kismat Konnection have approached romance in different ways. All three are good artists, but there are roles in which some fit and others do not. Vidya fits in the role of Priya she has done in my film," said Mirza.

The other attractions of the movie are the boisterous presence of Juhi Chawla and the voiceover given by Shah Rukh Khan.

Contract, on the other hand, has no stars to boast of other than the director himself. Newcomer Adhvik Mahajan is playing the main lead in it.

Since Varma finds himself in his element when he directs gangster films, Contract is expected to be a hard-hitting movie like his previous hits - Satya and Company.

But, according to Varma, Contract is not exactly a gangster movie. It is mainly about the underworld's links with terrorism told through a terrorist who is well aware of the gangland activities.

After the lukewarm response to Sarkar Raj, will non-star-cast Contract succeed at the box office?

"Since it is a theme-based film, it will be a slow-starter, but eventually may do well through word-of-mouth publicity," said a trade analyst.

Some distributors of Contract reportedly, had suggested Varma to defer the release till August in order not to avoid clash with Kismat Konnection. But he refused to oblige them, reasoning that the two are diametrically opposite movies.

Tuesday, July 1, 2008
Bollywood Gossip : Looks like Bollywood Actress Sonam Kapoor has found her new love in Kunal Kapoor. This Bollywood Kapoor Jodi is nowadays often scene roaming around coffee shops, malls, etc with hand in hand.

Looking at the recent happenings in both the stars life they really could heal each others broken heart. Where Ranbir Kapoor dumped Sonam for hottie Deepika Padukone, Kunal Kapoor too had a break up with gorgeous Dia Mirza.

So the couple could surely understand each other’s situation and try to bring happiness on their respective lives. Especially, Anil Kapoor’s daughter Sonam was so depressed after her break up with Ranbir that she went for a 2 months hideout.

But we would like to warn this emotional girl about Mr Kunal who has not only ditched Diya Mirza but also has an flirtatious history of dumping Raima Sen.

Being an emotional girl we would recommend Sonam to think twice before moving ahead in her relationship with this flirt natured guy.

I hope Deepika and Ranbir stay together says Kareena
Wednesday, June 4, 2008
Bollywood Gossip : "I've five film in various stages of production. Then I've nine endorsements for which I've to shoot ads round the year.

Kareena Kapoor [ Click here for photos ]

Plus I've all these stage shows that require rehearsals. I can't seem to find the time to do anything properly," she laments from Melbourne where she's shooting for Salman Khan's Main Aur Mrs Khanna.

She has in fact agreed to perform at IIFA in June and is rehearsing as she has never done. "I'm performing a medley of my songs from Jab We Met and Tashan. Gone are the days when I'd go on stage with just a little practice. Now I want to be my best in every stage performance."

But where's the time! "Here, at Melbourne I'm rehearsing for IIFA at nights and shooting in the day time. Am I over-worked? I'm exhausted. But what choice do I have? I've decided to take my live performances as seriously as my movies and endorsement,"she says.

She's currently Melbourne and will next move to Los Angeles for a long 40-day spell of shooting for Sajid Nadiadwala's Kambhakt Ishq

"I'll be away from home for more than three months at a stretch. I miss home. I miss my family. I've never been so much out of Mumbai. I'll finish shooting here, then head to perform at the IIFA.

In fact I'm working so hard I hardly get sleep. I'm shooting in the day time and I'm rehearsing during the night.I feel like a I haven't slept for ages."

She'll join Saif in London for a week in London from June 20. Saif will be shooting in the city for his first home production to be directed by Imtiaz Ali. Yup, the same film that Deepika Padukone is doing instead of Kareena.

And Deepika Padukone is seeing Kareena's star-cousin Ranbir. "I'm so happy for them. I hope they'll be happy together. It feels so nice to have another Kapoor from my generation doing so well.

He was fantastic in Saawariya. He's here's to stay. I feel a sense of pride and belonging for him.The Kapoors and Khans are rocking the industry."

No hard feelings about not being in Saif's first home production?

"None at all," Bebo laughs. "I joked at the Stardust awards about not being in Saif's first production and everyone took it seriously.

Honestly I enjoy meeting him outside Mumbai. At least we can have some privacy. At home me and Saif can't even go out for dinner without people staring at us, constantly judging our behaviour..."

Bollywood Celebrates Mother's Day
Monday, May 12, 2008
Bollywood Gossip : What are the two factors that make up Bollywood?- Maa and Cine-ma. So Shashi Kapoor was indeed on strong ground when he said in Dewaar -Mere paas maa hai (I have my mother with me) if there were no filmy mothers around.

But we won't be discussing filmy moms…Rather we can hear about the moms who are behind many a Bollywood sensation.

Let's hear the daastan-e-maa (story of mother) from some of the biggest names of Bollywood

Ranbir Kapoor on Neetu Singh Kapoor: Mother's Day to me is an opportunity to keep on telling my mom how special she is to me. My mother gave me the freedom to take decisions when I was in Class V. She is so special!

Not only for me and my sister but for the entire family. She never interfered in my space. All she would say is that –Do whatever you want to. But just remember your origin, the royal blood in your veins. And that's more than enough for me to think and rethink before taking a decision.

Of course I will get her the cutest gift on Mother's Day. She is too figure conscious. So can't give her chocolates. I think she will be happy if I gift her a new gym.

Rekha on her mother Pushpavalli Ganeshan: My mother was, in fact is, my guardian angel. It's all because of her that I am in this industry. I still remember how every morning at 6 she dragged all of us to the temple in our house.

The fragrance of her mogras mixed with that of agarbattis, camphor and other flowers created a heaven for us-the fragrance still lingers every day when I pray at the temple in my bungalow Sea Springs. She was the best cook I have ever known.

The recipe of her upma and poha was famous among our friends and relatives. I never had to communicate with her verbally.

She looked at me and understood what I wish to say. Perhaps that's the reason why she passed away when I was shooting abroad because she knew how my heart bled every time I saw her wriggling in pain at the hospital.

Honestly speaking, I don't miss her because I never forget her. Even today I can literally feel the warmth of the godi (lap)-the best bed to rest on. Oh, I don't believe in the concept of Mother's Day and yet believe in it.

I think every day in the year is Mother's Day. Just as you can't confine the sky in a bottle, you can't confine Mother's Day within 24hours."

Hrithik Roshan on Pinky Roshan: My mother is the Bourn vita of our family-her sheer presence makes all the difference to our lives. Mother's Day this year is even more special with two mothers in our family-my mother and the mother of my two kids, Suzzane.

Generally it's Suzzane who take scare of all the arrangements for a celebration. But since this day is meant for my mom and her, so I guess the males have to tie up their aprons to please the ladies of the family.

Esha Deol on Hema Malini: Whenever I think of perfection I think of my mom. Every day she surprises me with a new dimension in her character.

She grows intellectually every day. I can never look or dance or act so beautifully like her. It won't be wrong if I say I live Mother's Day every day with my mother.

Well, even after all the free-flow of emotions, if your dil maange more, then grab a DVD of the film Mother India and watch it this Mother's Day (the latest buzz is, DVD-wallahs are giving a compilation of Nirupa "Mother of Bollywood" Roy's films for the early birds).

Bollywood Gossip - Ranbir to perform on Bachna Ae Haseeno
Monday, May 5, 2008
Bollywood Gossip : By now its common knowledge that Ranbir Kapoor's next release Bachna Ae Haseeno directed by Siddharth Raj Anand borrows its title from his father Rishi Kapoor's evergreen number from Hum Kisise Kum Nahin. But now the latest heartthrob will even move his feet to a song called Bachna Ae Haseeno for the film.

Choreographer Ahmed Khan who would be choreographing the Saawariya lad in this film says, “Yes, we are having a song called 'Bachna Ae Haseeno' and it will feature Ranbir along with the 3 girls- Bipasha, Deepika and Minissha. It will be mainly used as promotional number for the film. Since Rishi-ji's number is still a cult hit, they decided to have Ranbir also perform to a song which has similar lyrics. Vishal and Shekhar have composed the music for the song,” he adds.

So how has been the experience shooting with tinsel-town's latest pin-up boy, “It has been great. I shot a song with him in Mumbai at Yashraj studios. It's a commercial Indian song which we did. He is a brilliant dancer. In Saawariya, baring a number or two, he didn't really get much of a chance to showcase his dancing skills but he has got that rhythm in his genes. His father and uncle Shammi-ji have all been brilliant dancers and even Ranbir has his own style. I would be going to Switzerland and Venice now to finish 3 songs for the film and after we return we would shoot the 'Bachna Ae Haseeno' number,” says the choreographer-turned-director.

We also asked Ahmed on the status of his next film Paathshala, “The post-production is currently on. We would start the dubbing of the film sometime next month. We are planning a Children's Day release (Nov 14th) so we have ample amount of time on our hands”, he smiles.

Meanwhile Ahmed's wife Shaira Khan who turns producer with Paathshala is already planning her next project, “Yes, her next film is about what goes on in a girl's heart. It is essentially a journey through a girl's heart and what do girls want from guys and all that stuff etc. The film is a light, fun film on the lines of Drew Barrymore, Meg Ryan, Adam Sandler's kind of flicks. The film would star one girl and three guys. We would be finalizing the names within a fortnight or so,” reveals Ahmed.

With choreographing, direction and now production, Ahmed surely has his hands full.

Bollywood Gossip - Multiplex say "NO" Tashan
Bollywood Photo Gallery > Tashan
Sizzling Kareena Kapoor in Tashan

Bollywood Gossips : Yash Raj Films' much-awaited action thriller Tashan has opened in a select few cinema halls.

Multiplexes are waging a battle on who gets the most the distributor or the producer.

PVR Cinemas and Inox in Mumbai are not screening the film. In Delhi too mulitplexes like Adlabs and PVR have said a straight no.

"We had asked Inox, Fame and Adlabs multiplexes to give 60 per cent of the revenue collected in the first week. Tashan is a film that will easily earn enough revenues for the multiplexes and us. I don't think the increase in revenue percentage is too high," said Sanjeev Kohli, CEO of Yash Raj Films.

Amitabh Vardhan, CEO, PVR Cinemas, said: "As of now we don't have the film. As far as the revenue sharing is concerned, I would not like to comment on that."

Arijit Dutta, a Kolkata-based exhibitor-distributor, is more forthright.

"I don't understand why we have to pay higher revenue when the business in Kolkata is 10 times less than other metros. This year revenue has been hiked by 12 percent here, whereas Mumbai and Delhi multiplexes were asked to pay only two per cent more," said Dutta.

Till Friday morning none of the parties had reached any agreement and the film has opened in only single screen theatres. Apart from them, the Waves and Spice multiplexes are having shows of the film.

The Krishna Acharya directed film starring Kareena, Saif, Akshay and Anil Kapoor is an edge of the seat thriller.

Bollywood Gossip - It's Bachchans vs. Kapoors vs. SRK
Right from the times of the patriarch Raj Kapoor, the Kapoor khandaan has always had a stronghold on the Filmfare awards ceremony. This time it was no different.

This year the Best Actress Award, Filmfare 2008 went to Kareena Kapoor; the Best Debutant's Award to Ranbir Kapoor and the Lifetime Achievement Award to Rishi Kapoor. Quite evidently, it was a complete Kapoor sweep once again.

Similar to the Kapoor Khandaan, another khandaan's hoping to make a sweep. Not at the Filmfare, but at IIFA - the rival awards show that has Amitabh Bachchan as the brand Ambassador.

The Abhishek-Aishwarya starrer Guru is nominated here in almost every category. The other award staples include Yash Raj and Karan Johar's Dharma Productions.

These families represent Bollywood's traditional film families that have ruled the award ceremonies for years.

From Amitabh to Abhishek, Yash Johar to Karan Johar and Rishi to Ranbir, the stars may have changed, the filmmakers may have changed but the awards keep coming.

Critics of the system say, if you're part of the family, the trophy's yours. If not better luck next time.

According to Madhur Bhandarkar: ''I have got national Award for Chandi Bar and Page Three. But I was a little disappointed in the popular awards here. After getting a national award, Page 3 was sidelined when it came to the popular awards. I didn't know why.''

As Madhur Bhandarkar puts it, the lines are clearly drawn - between who's in which camp and who's on who's side.

So if you're a Shah Rukh Khan, you host Filmfare but don't attend IIFA. And if you're a Bachchan that's the one award you don't miss.

All your friends and those you work with walk the red carpet with you, even hand out and receive awards. And sometimes even if you've got a great film lineage, you may at best get the critics award.

''The cliquism and the incestuousness stops talent. It's again quite the Arjun-Eklavya story, thousands of years after the Mahabharata. Only Arjun can'', says Sudhir Mishra.

According to film producer, Vipul Shah, ''Why is not a film actor or film producer allowed to promote his own family? Because that happens in every business. So why should an actor or director be restricted or be criticised for doing so. Because when a businessman hands over his multicrore empire to a son over a much more learned CEO, nobody makes an issue out of that.''

But of course there are exceptions to the rule. Powerful performers like Akshay Kumar and Shah Rukh Khan, who came from the outside and built their own families - giving hope to the majority of this industry that has no family backing them.

''See people tell me that you are from Shah Rukh Khan camp, you are from this camp...we all belong to one camp. That is cinema. I am groomed in Mahesh Bhatt's so-called camp. Then I joined Shah Rukh Khan. And I have worked with Shah Rukh Khan for almost 12 years. He is like my local guardian. During these last 12 years I never felt I belong to Shah Rukh Khan's camp. I am friendly with everybody'', says Vivek Sharma, director of Bhoothnath.

Bollywood Gossip - Kareena's dream finally come true
Tuesday, April 22, 2008

Kareena Kapoor

Bollywood Gossip : It’s finally happening. Bollywood has put together the dream team of Kareena Kapoor and Aamir Khan for Raj Kumar Hirani’s film Idiots. Kareena, who has signed on three big projects lately, including Sajid Nadiadwala’s Kambakht Ishq with Akshay Kumar and Renzel d’Silva’s untitled film with beau Saif Ali Khan, is thrilled to be working with Aamir. “It’s a dream,” she exclaimed, “we recently came close to working on two films together, Vishal Bhardwaj’s Mr Mehta And Mrs Singh and Mani Ratnam’s Lajjo, but it’s finally happening now.”

She is also looking forward to doing another film with Saif after Omkara and Tashan. “Renzil’s film has a stunning script. And I’m doing something in it I’ve never done before,” she said, declining to elaborate. But she added, “It’s important to keep our personal and professional lives apart. Saif and I need to concentrate on our individual careers. There’s no marriage for me for the next five years.”

As for Tashan, she’s worked really hard on the film and is hoping her hard work pays, because “it wouldn’t hurt to have another hit after Jab We Met”. Right now, she is at peace with herself. She’s looking fab and feeling great. “People are saying I want to be like Victoria Beckham. I think the talk started when Saif got himself tattooed with my name. David Beckham had done the same for Victoria. But I’m proud of my sculpted body. Why should I want to be like anyone else? I look no different from the way I looked earlier. I guess I’m just happy in life, and that shows,” said Kareena.
