Bollywood News - Tusshar Turns Stylist for Makeover Guru Aalim
Monday, October 27, 2008
Bollywood News : Tusshar Kapoor, who plays the character of a mute hair dresser in his upcoming film 'Golmaal Returns' directed by Rohit Shetty and produced by Shree Ashtavinayak Cine Vision Ltd. was recently seen in Hakim's Aalim styling celebrity hair stylist Aalim's hair in role reversal of sorts!!!
Aalim took over Tusshar's hair giving it a funky and stylized look after which Tusshar then took over and went snipping Aalim's hair for which Aalim willingly obliged! Tusshar even handed out a few tips on the techniques used by hair dressers!
Tusshar had prepared for the role by observing Aalim at work. He noticed the way Aalim held the scissors and the cape and set about doing everything.
Says Aalim, "There is a lot of character and style in a hair dresser which Tusshar has successfully incorporated into his character. A successful hair dresser has a sense of humour and personality which Tusshar has essayed very well. Im glad there is someone who is finally playing a hair dresser's role in Bollywood. It's Bollywood's answer to Zohan!!!"
Tusshar who happily snipped away Aalim's hair, admired the way how poised and chilled out Aalim was with his customers and tried to bring out the very same in his role. Always fascinated by the way Aalim constantly changes his own style, Tusshar incorporated the same in the film too for which he sports a different look in the song, and he keeps changing his hair style every couple of scenes.
Says Tusshar, "Im practically playing Aalim in the film. I've copied his style, his look and even have a tattoo of a bird on my arm like Aalim!!! I think Aalim is a great hair stylist and he's a great human being also, and of course he's the best for the stars! "

Bollywood Gossip - The Perfectionist
Saturday, October 25, 2008
Bollywood Gossip : Director Samir Karnik and much sought after Cinematographer Binod Pradhan have come together to work in Heroes. A particular scene with Salman Khan required him to sit on top of an army truck with the sun setting behind the mountains as a backdrop. In such a situation good lighting is integral if not crucial and since it was a top angle shot the crane had to be maneuvered in order to accommodate the actors and the scenic location.

Heroes

The scene was set but unfortunately the sun had made other plans and promptly went behind the mountains and the moment was lost. And not being a man to compromise Binod Pradhan refused to take the shot. Samir Karnik rues “By the time the crane was moved and Binod ji was ready the light had gone. Binod ji said its too late to take the shot, I still tried to push him to take the shot but there was no light. I was a little upset that we could not do the shot as it would have been perfect take. But alas nature had other plans”

Bollywood Gossip - Limited audience for Madhur's FASHION!
Saturday, October 18, 2008
Bollywood Gossip : Realistic Bollywood filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar's keenly awaited film FASHION will have a limited audience!

The Censor Board of Film Certification has passed FASHION under 'A' (Adult) certificate after they watched the film. On seeing the movie the censor board on many occasions felt that there were many such scenes which are not fit for family viewing.

As per few reports Bhandarkar was not happy with Censor Board's decision. Madhur who is quite enthusiastic about his dear project FASHION, was expecting an U/A certificate. He even argued for the same with the board members but they stood adamant. They were ready only under one condition, if Madhur deletes few scenes.

When Madhur Bhandarkar refused to do so, the members had no option other than certifying it as 'A'.

When we contacted Madhur to confirm the same he said, "Yeah that's true that Censor Board asked me to delete atleast 6 scenes. But I couldn't agree on the same as the theme of FASHION happens to be out and out glamorous. And deleting scenes from the movie would not have done justice to the film or blend in. I tried my best to convince them that deleting the scenes means removing the integral part from the film and compromising on realistic aspect of the movie. I certainly never expected that the board would give it a 'U' certificate, but I was sure enough to get an U/A certificate."

He further adds, "Since it would not have been a good option to hold the movie for the simple reason of certification, I didn't go for a further revising, though I had an option to appeal to the committee of the board against the Examining Committee's decision."

Now the bollywood film will hit the screens on the assigned date i.e. 29th October.

Bollywood Movie Hari Puttar wins over Harry Potter
Thursday, September 25, 2008
Bollywood News : Warner Bros, which owns the rights to the Harry Potter franchise, had argued the Indian film sounded too similar to the name of JK Rowling's wizard hero.

But lawyers for both sides have said the case has now been dismissed.

The New Delhi court said Warner Bros could have brought the case three years ago and said readers could easily distinguish Hari Puttar from Harry Potter.

The decision means the film can now be released in India.

Warner Bros said in a statement on Monday it was assessing the ruling adding it believes the film's title "unfairly sought to confuse consumers and benefit from the well-known and well-loved Harry Potter brand."

"Hari Puttar - A Comedy of Terrors" was due to open earlier this month, but producers delayed its release after some television networks refused to air trailers due to the legal dispute.

The film follows the adventures of a 10-year-old Indian boy whose family moves to England. It is scheduled to premiere in Mumbai on Wednesday and will be on general release from Friday.

The makers of the film stressed the film "bears no resemblance to the Hollywood film Harry Potter and it is a completely different story."

Producers argued Hari was a common Indian name while Puttar is Hindi for son.

Harry Potter films have grossed more than $4.47 billion (£2.42 billion) since 2001, making it one of the most lucrative franchises of all time.

Its next instalment "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" is due for worldwide release next summer.

"Jaane Tu..." rakes in Rs.150 mn first week!
Saturday, July 19, 2008
Bollywood News Mumbai, July 18 (IANS) : Romantic flick "Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na" has broken the dry spell at the box-office, grossing nearly Rs.150 million in the first week of its release.

This revenue figure could be because of the high-ticket prices in the multiplexes but it is nonetheless a windfall for a movie starring mostly newcomers.

A joint venture of Aamir Khan Productions and PVR Cinema, the film is Aamir's nephew Imran's debut vehicle.

Even for Genelia D'Souza, who earlier appeared in three Hindi movies, "Jaane Tu..." is her first Bollywood hit in a leading role.

The movie's whopping success has firmly consolidated her position in the industry, shadowing her rising career down South.

Incidentally, the box-office dominance of "Jaane Tu..." has created worries for producers whose movies are due for release.

Last week, producer Jagdish Sharma's "Good Luck" and director Mani Shankar's "Mukhbiir" could not be released in many of the multiplexes as the management suddenly increased the additional screens available there for "Jaane Tu..." keeping public demand for the movie

Bollywood Gossip - Sizzling Amisha Patel in Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic
Sunday, June 15, 2008
Bollywood Gossip : Amisha Patel has dared to bare in the latest offering from the Yash Raj Studios.

In new promo shots for Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic, the actress is seen baring plenty of skin and displaying her lush assets to the oomphiest level.

Can anyone find the Censor Board frowning?????

But we are certainly not complaining about this because she has toned up pretty well and looks sizzling sensational in her glamorous and sexy new avatar in the song “Lazy Lamhe“, the sensuous steamy number where Bollywood Actress Amisha seduces Saif Ali Khan.

It isn’t just Amisha''s career that’s doing well, but her personal life as well. Miss Amisha who kept a low-profile since her break-up with long time beau Vikram Bhatt recently stepped out with a new boyfriend (Delhi-based-businessman Kanav Puri).

Looks like Kanav is not only boosting her ego; but his presence is boosting her career as well! We say he’s a keeper!

Good Luck Amisha!!

Bollywood Gossip - Sonia Gandhi approves film on her life
Monday, May 19, 2008
Bollywood Gossip : Congress president Sonia Gandhi has approved a proposed film on her life that will include
details of her romance with her late husband Rajiv Gandhi during their student days in the UK, its director Jagmohan Mundhra said.

"I have already shared with Sonia ji all the research that I have done on her. She has given me the go-ahead but asked me to hold on until the the next general elections are out of the way," Mundhra said.

The film is scheduled to roll in 2009, he said.

Mundhra's plans to film the real life story about how the late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and Sonia Maino first met in England as students were stalled last year amid protests by a section of the Congress party.

"All that has now been sorted out," said the filmmaker, who is in the Cannes Film Market this year with "Shoot on Sight", yet another film inspired by actual events.

Mundhra was on the verge of making film soon after completing Provoked, which had Aishwarya Rai playing a real-life battered woman who ended up killing her abusive husband.

'Shoot on Sight', starring Naseeruddin Shah, Greta Scacchi and Om Puri, narrates the story of a Muslim commander of the Scotland Yard, Tariq Ali, who must stand up for his values and beliefs in a London shaken by the 7/7 terror strike in a tube station.

The protagonist of the film is modelled on Tariq Gafoor, the Pakistan-born officer who became Scotland Yard's most visible face on television in the aftermath of the underground blasts.

Bollywood Jokes - 10 Rules for Bollywood Film Making
Tuesday, May 6, 2008
1. Two brothers separated in childhood will always grow up on different sides of the law. The law-breaker, however, will suddenly turn over a new leaf before the end, bash up the villain (who is the *real* bad guy), and be pardoned for all his sins before the last-scene family reunion. (This is possible only if he has a heroine - see rule 2 below).

2. If the number of heroes is not equal to the number of heroines, the excess heroes/heroines will a) die b) join the Red Cross and take off to Switzerland before the end of the movie.

3. If there are 2 heroes in a movie, they will fight each other savagely for at least 5 minutes (10 if they are brothers).

4. Any court scene will have the dialogue "Objection milord". If it is said by the hero, or his lawyer, it will be overruled. Else, it will be sustained.

5. The hero's sister will usually marry the hero's best friend (i.e. the second hero). Else, she will be raped by the villain within the 1st 30 minutes, and commit suicide.

6. In a chase, the hero will always overtake the villain, even on a bullock-cart, or on foot.

7. When the hero fires at the villain(s), he will never
a) miss
b) run out of bullets. When the villain fires at the hero, he will always miss (unless the hero is required to die, as in rule 2).

8. Any fight sequence shall take place in the vicinity of a stack of a) pots b) barrels c) glass bottles, which will be smashed to pieces.

9. Any movie involving lost and found brothers will have a song sung by
a) the brothers
b) their blind mother (but of course, she has to be blind in order to regain her sight in the climax)
c) the family dog/cat.

10. Police inspectors (when not played by the hero) come in two categories:
a) Scrupulously honest, probably the hero's father - killedby the villain before the titles.
b) Honest, but always chasing the anti-hero (as in Rule 1), saying "Tum kanoon se bach nahin sakte", only to pat him in the back in reel 23. Usually, this inspector's daughter is in love with the anti-hero.
c) The corrupt inspector, (usually the real villain's sidekick) unceremoniously knocked about by the hero(s) in the climax.

Bollywood Gossip - Ranbir to perform on Bachna Ae Haseeno
Monday, May 5, 2008
Bollywood Gossip : By now its common knowledge that Ranbir Kapoor's next release Bachna Ae Haseeno directed by Siddharth Raj Anand borrows its title from his father Rishi Kapoor's evergreen number from Hum Kisise Kum Nahin. But now the latest heartthrob will even move his feet to a song called Bachna Ae Haseeno for the film.

Choreographer Ahmed Khan who would be choreographing the Saawariya lad in this film says, “Yes, we are having a song called 'Bachna Ae Haseeno' and it will feature Ranbir along with the 3 girls- Bipasha, Deepika and Minissha. It will be mainly used as promotional number for the film. Since Rishi-ji's number is still a cult hit, they decided to have Ranbir also perform to a song which has similar lyrics. Vishal and Shekhar have composed the music for the song,” he adds.

So how has been the experience shooting with tinsel-town's latest pin-up boy, “It has been great. I shot a song with him in Mumbai at Yashraj studios. It's a commercial Indian song which we did. He is a brilliant dancer. In Saawariya, baring a number or two, he didn't really get much of a chance to showcase his dancing skills but he has got that rhythm in his genes. His father and uncle Shammi-ji have all been brilliant dancers and even Ranbir has his own style. I would be going to Switzerland and Venice now to finish 3 songs for the film and after we return we would shoot the 'Bachna Ae Haseeno' number,” says the choreographer-turned-director.

We also asked Ahmed on the status of his next film Paathshala, “The post-production is currently on. We would start the dubbing of the film sometime next month. We are planning a Children's Day release (Nov 14th) so we have ample amount of time on our hands”, he smiles.

Meanwhile Ahmed's wife Shaira Khan who turns producer with Paathshala is already planning her next project, “Yes, her next film is about what goes on in a girl's heart. It is essentially a journey through a girl's heart and what do girls want from guys and all that stuff etc. The film is a light, fun film on the lines of Drew Barrymore, Meg Ryan, Adam Sandler's kind of flicks. The film would star one girl and three guys. We would be finalizing the names within a fortnight or so,” reveals Ahmed.

With choreographing, direction and now production, Ahmed surely has his hands full.

Bollywood Gossip - Multiplex say "NO" Tashan
Bollywood Photo Gallery > Tashan
Sizzling Kareena Kapoor in Tashan

Bollywood Gossips : Yash Raj Films' much-awaited action thriller Tashan has opened in a select few cinema halls.

Multiplexes are waging a battle on who gets the most the distributor or the producer.

PVR Cinemas and Inox in Mumbai are not screening the film. In Delhi too mulitplexes like Adlabs and PVR have said a straight no.

"We had asked Inox, Fame and Adlabs multiplexes to give 60 per cent of the revenue collected in the first week. Tashan is a film that will easily earn enough revenues for the multiplexes and us. I don't think the increase in revenue percentage is too high," said Sanjeev Kohli, CEO of Yash Raj Films.

Amitabh Vardhan, CEO, PVR Cinemas, said: "As of now we don't have the film. As far as the revenue sharing is concerned, I would not like to comment on that."

Arijit Dutta, a Kolkata-based exhibitor-distributor, is more forthright.

"I don't understand why we have to pay higher revenue when the business in Kolkata is 10 times less than other metros. This year revenue has been hiked by 12 percent here, whereas Mumbai and Delhi multiplexes were asked to pay only two per cent more," said Dutta.

Till Friday morning none of the parties had reached any agreement and the film has opened in only single screen theatres. Apart from them, the Waves and Spice multiplexes are having shows of the film.

The Krishna Acharya directed film starring Kareena, Saif, Akshay and Anil Kapoor is an edge of the seat thriller.

Bollywood Gossip - Kareena's dream finally come true
Tuesday, April 22, 2008

Kareena Kapoor

Bollywood Gossip : It’s finally happening. Bollywood has put together the dream team of Kareena Kapoor and Aamir Khan for Raj Kumar Hirani’s film Idiots. Kareena, who has signed on three big projects lately, including Sajid Nadiadwala’s Kambakht Ishq with Akshay Kumar and Renzel d’Silva’s untitled film with beau Saif Ali Khan, is thrilled to be working with Aamir. “It’s a dream,” she exclaimed, “we recently came close to working on two films together, Vishal Bhardwaj’s Mr Mehta And Mrs Singh and Mani Ratnam’s Lajjo, but it’s finally happening now.”

She is also looking forward to doing another film with Saif after Omkara and Tashan. “Renzil’s film has a stunning script. And I’m doing something in it I’ve never done before,” she said, declining to elaborate. But she added, “It’s important to keep our personal and professional lives apart. Saif and I need to concentrate on our individual careers. There’s no marriage for me for the next five years.”

As for Tashan, she’s worked really hard on the film and is hoping her hard work pays, because “it wouldn’t hurt to have another hit after Jab We Met”. Right now, she is at peace with herself. She’s looking fab and feeling great. “People are saying I want to be like Victoria Beckham. I think the talk started when Saif got himself tattooed with my name. David Beckham had done the same for Victoria. But I’m proud of my sculpted body. Why should I want to be like anyone else? I look no different from the way I looked earlier. I guess I’m just happy in life, and that shows,” said Kareena.

Bollywood News - OSO among top three Bollywood films abroad
Monday, March 17, 2008
Three Bollywood films grossed three million pounds in box-office collections last year, according to industry figures.

Indian films Om Shanti Om, Namastey London and Partner are among the foreign productions that are increasingly collecting large sums in Britain, according to the Film Distributors Association.

For several years now, Bollywood films have figured in the Top 10 blockbusters in Britain as Indian producers increasingly use British Asian diaspora themes, locations and production facilities.

The UK is seen as the world's number one market for Bollywood productions outside India. DVD distributors also cite a growing interest in foreign language films from UK audiences.

Om Shanti Om [ Bollywood Celebrity Photos ]

The Film Distributors' Association said the growing popularity of foreign films reflects an "ongoing process of sophistication" and is helping to bolster already rising UK cinema revenues.

In 2007, there were 525 new film releases in the UK from at least 49 countries, according to the association.

There have also been UK audience gains for less-established exporters, including Romanian cinema with the recently released backstreet abortions drama 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days.

Bollywood Gossip - Amitabh & Rekha together?
Sunday, February 24, 2008
Bollywood Gossip - Even we were equally surprised as you are on reading this title. Well that was the news, from a section of media reporting about reel life hit jodi Amitabh & Rekha's comeback in a film titled ALADDIN, to be directed by JHANKAAR BEATS fame director Sujoy Ghosh. The yesteryear-superhit jodi will appear onscreen after almost a gap of more than two decades (around 26 years). But sadly the news will settle only as headlines and will not turn out to be a reality as the director, Sujoy, denied about they being together in ALADDIN, when we contacted. Further he also confirmed that it's only Big B who is signed for the film, playing the character of 'Gini' and not Rekha. Well all those brokenhearted fans can at least enjoy the news, if not the movie.

Bollywood Gossip - No Entry for Bipasha in sequel
Sunday, February 17, 2008
Bollywood Gossips - Boney Kapoor is all set to start his No Entry sequel this year finally. “The film will be called No Entry Mein Entry. We are currently working on its script. And will soon start the project”, confirms Boney Kapoor

The original blockbuster directed by Anees Bazmee had an ensemble starcast of Bollywood Actors Salman Khan, Fardeen Khan, Anil Kapoor, Lara Dutta, Esha Deol, Celina Jaitley and Bipasha Basu in lead roles. Will the same cast be repeated in the sequel? “Well, more or less it will have the same star cast”, says Boney. When we prod him more he adds, “Salman will surely be there. So will be others, except Bipasha Basu”.

Bipasha Basu [ Exclusive Photo Gallery ]

But why is only Bollywood Actress Bipasha being left out? Does it have anything to do with Bollywood Actor Salman Khan who shares cold vibes with John Abraham? Rumours say Actor Salman doesn’t want to work with John’s girlfriend Bipasha now.

Is that the reason, we ask Boney? “No it’s not true. Bipasha is not cast in the sequel because her chapter was closed in No Entry itself. We are working on a new story and once we are done with that we will be able to announce the final star cast”, clarifies the producer.

Meanwhile, Bollywood Actress Bipasha Basu seems to be unaware about the sequel and has no idea why she hasn’t been approached for
No Entry Mein Entry.

Bollywood Gossip-Sanjay Dutt's got the blues but he's not complaining

Mumbai: At the recently held Johnny Walker One Tree Music Festival in Mumbai, the crowd was left ecstatic. But there was one man in the crowd who definitely stood out with his sheer musical talent.

This man is just one of the reasons why Bollywood Actor Sanjay Dutt abandoned his film shooting in Goa to come back to Mumbai for a few days.

"I told them Joe Bonamassa is there. I cannot shoot," Sanjay Dutt said.

Joe Bonamasa, the 30-year-old blues guitarist, vocalist and songwriter, has been flown down to India by the Johnny Walker One Tree Music Festival at Sanjay Dutt's behest.

On Saturday evening both the actor and musician were all smiles.

"Just to see how simply he stands and he plays the guitar, especially the acoustic guitar...that's talent," Dutt said.

Also part of the fest was the five-time Grammy Award winning blues musician Robert Cray, who later took the stage to strum away into the night.

We all know that Bollywood ActorSanjay Dutt loves his music. However the actor has now taken this passion a step forward. Especially when it comes to blues music.

"We had a lot of people who were into rock, blues and jazz but it just died down. I think it was our time in the 70s. I just wanted that time back and I suggested about starting the One Tree Music Festival and getting these people," Actor Sanjay Dutt added.

This effort has been music to the ears for all music lovers in Mumbai. Despite falling temperatures, the response to the festival was anything but cold.

The Bollywood bug seems to have bitten a new Roshan. After Hrithik, his sister Sunaina will be making her debut in films. Well, not as an actor, but as a producer. “Sunaina is co-producing Krazzy 4 with me,” informs Rakesh Roshan.

Krazzy 4 has two of Bollywood's superstars SRK and Hrithik doing item numbers. “We just finished shooting Shah Rukh's item number. He further adds, “Krazzy 4 features Arshad Warsi, Irrfan Khan, Rajpal Yadav and Suresh Menon as the crazy characters while Juhi Chawla plays a psychiatrist. The film also has Dia Mirza and Rajat Kapoor who is Juhi's husband in the film.”

Mallika is now Rs one crore girl too
Thursday, January 17, 2008
Mallika Sherawat had quite a successful 2007 with a hat-trick of box office successes to her name. However, even though 'Guru', 'Aap Ka Surroor - The Moviee' and 'Welcome' were all money spinners, Mallika only had supporting roles or cameo appearances in each of the three films.

While in 'Guru', she gyrated to the tune of chartbuster track 'Maiyya Maiyya', in case of 'Aap Kaa Surroor - The Moviee' there were rumors about her charging a whopping Rs one crore in fees for a short appearance.

Mallika Sherawat [ Exclusive Photo Collections ]

In the film, she had an item track 'Mehbooba' in addition to a few scenes as a woman who had much more than just a crush on Himesh Reshammiya.

Even though she was promoted as a vamp in the film, she hardly seemed to be the one as the film progressed.

Meanwhile, the latest release 'Welcome' is her biggest blockbuster of all times. Even as she made an appearance only in the second half of the film, her arrival only made the proceedings livelier.

Her naughty antics with Nana Patekar and Anil Kapoor managed to get the house down with her 'Kiya Kiya' song and dance number with the two veterans turning out to be a chartbuster.

Says a source closely associated with the actor, "The year 2007 has gone quite well for Mallika even though she didn't have a lead role to play in any of the three films.

After 'Pyaar Ke Side Effects', her fans have obviously been asking for more. After a consistently good run, in the form of three super hit films, she is all set to enter 2008 with a lot more confidence."

The year 2008 is indeed special for Madame M as she would be seen in at least three high profile projects - 'Ugly And Pagli', 'Maan Gaye Mughal-E-Azam' and a Tamil film 'Dasavatharam'.

Reveals the source, "'Maan Gaye Mughal-E-Azam' is all set to remind the audience of the great chemistry that Mallika shared with Rahul Bose in 'Pyaar Ke Side Effects'. The film is a wonderful package.

Not only does it comes from the house of Venus who are looking at making a comeback after the debacle of 'Aap Ki Khatir'; it also has Sanjay Chhel as a director who wrote such superb one liners in 'Partner'.

Actors like Paresh Rawal and Kay Kay Menon in the cast only make this yet another more comedy to watch out for in 2008."

Another comedy which Mallika's fans can expect from her this year is 'Ugly And Pagli'.

A Pritish Nandy Communications' production, the film, as per its producer Rangita Pritish Nandy, is 'Bollywood's quirkiest, kinkiest and funniest romance'.

To be directed by debutant Sachin Khot, the film sees Mallika paired opposite Ranvir Shorey who had a supporting role to play in 'Pyaar Ke Side Effects'. A romantic comedy, the film has music by Anu Malik.

Before the year comes to a close, Mallika would be also seen in her biggest and costliest Indian project ever - 'Dasavatharam' (which stands for 'Ten Incarnations').

She is said to be playing a CIA agent in the film that has Kamal Hassan in the lead with as many as 10 characters to portray.

With three major films up her sleeves that would feature Mallika in different roles as a leading lady, 2008 could well be the year that acts as her calling card!

Rani ends her Whore trilogy!
After playing the archetypal whore with a heart of gold in her last two films Rani Mukherjee is all set to do a moral about-turn.

In her new under-production Yashraj film directed by Kunal Kohli Rani plays an angel who descends down to look after business-executive Saif Ali Khan's children

Quite a leap of fate. And why not? For an actress who has always taken grave risks with her career.

How does it feel to be playing an angel?

"Right now I'm not allowed to talk about Kunal's film. But yes, any opportunity to surprise yourself and the audience is welcome," says Rani.

Some of her critics have sniggered at Rani's back-to-back roles as a prostitute in Laga Chunari Mein Daag and Saawariya.

But Rani is unfazed. "What's the big deal? An actor's job is to play a variety of challenging roles. And I don't think anyone

has the right to question any actor for his choice of oarts.

I can't be happy doing just good-women or bad-women roles. Luckily for me I got to play three different kinds of prostitutes in The Rising, Laga Chunari… and Saawariya.

You can call it my prostitute trilogy. I hope people will remember my three different portrayals of the Fallen Woman with affection."

For now Rani is happy playing the angel in Kohli's film. She's currently shooting for the film with Saif Ali Khan in Bangkok.

Anil says no to starring with daughter Sonam
Tuesday, January 15, 2008
Actor Anil Kapoor is the latest to join the list of Bollywood parents who are wary of being seen with their star children when the children make their screen debut.
Anil has turned down a chance to co-star with his daughter Sonam in her second film -Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's much talked-about 'Dilli 6'.

"It's true Rakeysh Mehra offered me a role in 'Dilli 6', but I declined it," Anil said.

"Who wouldn't want to work with Rakeysh after 'Rang De Basanti'? Sonam is lucky to be working with him in her second film after (working with) Sanjay Leela Bhansali."

For now, Anil has decided to stay away from offers to share screen space with his daughter.

"In fact, there have been 8 to 10 offers, but nothing that would tempt me into sharing space with her right away. Unless something really exceptional comes up, I wouldn't like to work with my daughter at the moment. In fact, she is opposed to it much more than I am. She feels even more strongly about it. So I'd rather wait."

He lights up at the mention of 'Saawariya'.

"The figures have come in straight from Sony Pictures in the US. And they're very heartening. I'd have been happier if the film had done better in India. But it has done well enough.

"Sonam has been appreciated unanimously. People like Amitabh Bachchan and Dilip Kumar have praised her. Sonam couldn't have hoped for a better debut. I'm very proud of my daughter. She has a long way to go. I think her second film is as exciting, if not more."

Added Sonam: "I've shot twice with my father and have done an AIDS feature. He was more worried about me than himself throughout the shoot. So, I don't think it's fair to him to have me as a co-star. Right now, I am too raw to remove my father from the character he'd play with me.

"Besides, I wouldn't want to play all and sundry characters with him. It has to be something special for both of us. But if he produces a film that has a role for both of us, I'd definitely want to do it because he produces only quality-conscious products."

In the past, Dimple Kapadia had said no to Bhansali's 'Khamoshi - The Musical' with daughter Twinkle.

Dharmendra agreed to play Sunny and Bobby Deol's father in 'Apne' after so many decades in the industry. Dharmendra played Sunny's dad in his second film 'Sunny', but they didn't have any scenes together.

Vidya Balan eager for doing comedy roles
Looks like Vidya Balan is trying hard to transform her looks and the serious image that she portrays onscreen by making a conscious choice of not only different characters but also different attires and hairstyles. Watch out for her upcoming flick, Aziz Mirza's Lucky Charm, where she is pitted opposite Shahid Kapoor. Compliment her on her looks and she says rather modestly, "Thank you for the compliment. I am working hard to change my appearance and hope my fans like it." The actress was criticised for her costumes in her last film Heyy Babyy. "I have accepted all the criticism that came my way. I had been a little lazy, but not anymore. I won't give my fans a chance to criticise me henceforth," she assures and adds, "In fact, I find myself comfortable wearing slacks with T-shirts and cotton 'salwar kameez'. I like to wear very less make-up. I like to appear as a simple girl-next-door."

The actress has been playing serious characters in almost all her ventures right from Parineeta, to Lage Raho Munnabhai, Heyy Babyy and now Bhool Bhulaiyaa. "Makers haven't offered me full fledged comedy roles yet, but I am hopeful that some good director, keeping faith in my comic abilities, would offer me such a role. I am dying to play a completely funny character," says Vidya.

Speaking about her forthcoming venture Halla Bol she says, "The story of this film is actually the journey of a man (Ajay Devgan) from being a reel hero to a real life hero. I play his wife, who stands by him throughout this journey. He stands up for what he believes in, though it is a difficult choice for him to make. I always hold up a mirror for him. There is certain consciousness that my character carries for him. Our families often do that and that is exactly what this girl, Sneha, does for him." Speaking about Ajay Devgan she says, "Undoubtedly he carries a 'serious actor' tag along with him, but he has also done some good comedies, which reflect more often in his off-screen behaviour on the sets when he is forever up to some prank on his co-stars. It was good fun working with him."

Quiz her about her role that appears to be small in this totally male dominated film and Vidya says, "I agree it is a small character, but being associated with a film like this in itself was a very special proposition for me. Better subjects are coming to the fore now, but the kind of films that Gulzaar saab or other makers attempted - movies with social conscience - are not made very often in today's times. 'Halla Bol' is such type of film. Rajkumar Santoshi is known for making such films and I enjoy being a part of it. Ideally, I feel films like 'Munnabhai', which are entertaining and yet carry a social message, should be made frequently as the audiences also prefer seeing such movies."

Ask her on her being linked to her co-stars John Abraham and now Shahid Kapoor, Vidya admits, "Frankly speaking these rumours troubled me earlier. I used to be very upset and angry. Sometimes I cried along as to why my name is being associated with something that is completely false. Now, I have overcome all that. I realised that as long as I am single my name will always be linked with my male co-stars to create some controversy or the other. It's the cost that we as celebrities have to pay". She signs off.

I don't think I'll look older than Shahid: Vidya
Friday, September 21, 2007
'Who says I look incompatible with Shahid Kapur?' Vidya protested about her pairing in Aziz Mirza's latest which she's currently shooting abroad.

'People are raising the question of our on-screen compatibility. All I'll say is, wait and see,' said Vidya.

Her co-stars range from Saif Ali Khan and John Abraham to Ajay Devgan, Akshay Kumar and Shahid Kapur.

'But my prince charming will have to be away from the industry,' the vivacious Vidya said.

Talking about her pairing with Shahid, she said: 'I loved working with his father Pankaj Kapur in Raj Kumar Santoshi's 'Halla Bol'. And I think Shahid is a bundle of talent. Aziz saab makes such wonderful working-class romances.'

Reminded that she resembles Mirza's favourite heroine Juhi Chawla, Vidya laughed delightedly.

'Juhi and I do have the same business manager (K.S. Sanjay). I love Aziz Saab's 'Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman' and 'Yes Boss'. The one I'm doing with him is such a sweet and tender film. They're entertaining and socially conscious. I'm blessed to be working with directors like Mani Ratnam, Raj Santoshi and Aziz Mirza.'

Hum and Tum are back
Monday, September 17, 2007
Hit pair Saif Ali Khan and Rani Mukerji will set the screen on fire once again in a Kunal Kohli-directed film. However, despite the film having started production a month ago, chhote nawab Saif is yet to make his presence felt on the sets. Why?

"This yet-to-be-titled flick brings the Hum Tum team Saif, Rani and Kunal together. It is being shot at the Yash Raj studios in Mumbai. But Saif hasn't shot a single day here because of his changed appearance for another Yash Raj film he is shooting for now, Tashan.

In Tashan, he is wearing an unusual hairstyle with long sideburns and a double barrel moustache. He can't alter this look for the Kunal Kohli film and get back to his Tashan look in a matter of days. So the makers have planned both the films in such a way that the schedules don't clash and disturb continuity," an insider revealed.
