Bollywood News : "I had to protect girls" says Govinda
Friday, January 18, 2008
On Wednesday afternoon, actor-turned-Member of Parliament Govinda is said to have slapped an onlooker who allegedly teased him.

The incident took place at Filmistan Studios on the stes of film Money Hai Toh Honey Hain when a young boy tried pushing a chair between Govinda's legs. Justifying his action, Govinda told Mumbai Mirror that the miscreant was trying to misbehave with the female dancers on the sets.

He says, “Yes, I slapped him. The guy was trying to get too close to the girls. I felt that I had to take a stand. I had to protect them.”

No police complaint has been lodged. "I am not aware of the incident," said Congress spokesperson Sanjay Nirupam.

The actor suspects that the guy was sent from an opposition political party. He says, “Opposition parties are harassing me.”

Maharashtra Minorities Front, a local organisation, has put up around 1000 banners bearing the actor-turned- politician's photograph in all parts of his constituency. The banners urge the people to inform the Front about Govinda's whereabouts. The person who gives any information about Govinda will get a prize-money of Rs 1 crore.

In 2004, Govinda made his political debut by joining the Congress party. He was thereafter elected as MP from the Virar constituency on Mumbai’s northern fringe, where he spent his childhood.

He unseated four-time MP Ram Naik in the Lok Sabha elections but since then has kept a low political profile, preferring to focus on his Bollywood career.

Amitabh, Shah Rukh to clash as Don
Wednesday, December 19, 2007
It looks like the senior and junior Don, Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan, will battle it out at the box office.

While Farhan Akhtar prepares to plunge into a sequel to his 2006 hit Don - The Chase Begins Again, with Shah Rukh in the lead, the family of Nariman Irani, who made the original Don in 1978 with Amitabh Bachchan, is all set to do their own take on the film with the Big B again.

Speaking on the subject for the first time, the Big B told IANS: "Yes, they (Nariman Irani's family) met me some time back. I'm yet to hear the script."

However, Farhan seems to be completely in the dark regarding this parallel project.

"I've no idea of this. We've very close relations with the Irani family. We've been very clear with each other. When they gave us the rights for remaking Don they gave us the right to exploit the movie for the next three-four years. We had even told them we might be doing a sequel. And they were really cool about it.

"They didn't seem interested in going back and doing anything Don related. From the outset they've been straight with us. I don't think they'd just go around announcing another movie."

But with the Iranis having approached Amitabh, a clash of creative interest between the two Dons featuring the Big B and Shah Rukh seems inevitable.
