“The Movie has done very well. I have to do a lot of hard work and enjoy the years to come,” said Deepika.

And she says she owes it all to co-actor Shah Rukh Khan and director Farah Khan.

“I feel like I have a family in Bollywood. I can call them up anytime and they are there for me,” said Deepika.

But talking about real family, do we see Deepika teaming up with her legendary father Prakash Padukone for any brand endorsements in the future?

“I know what to go to dad for and what to not,” said Deepika adding, she would surely do an ad with him.

When asked on her opinion of veteran actor Manoj Kumar's grouse with Om Shanti Om spoofing him, the debutant said, “We didn’t intend to make fun of anyone. We didn’t intend to copy anyone and I don’t want to comment on anyone in particular".

Shah Rukh Khan apologises to Manoj Kumar
Friday, November 16, 2007
After veteran actor Manoj Kumar threatened to sue filmmaker Farah Khan and actor Shah Rukh Khan for aping him in their newest film, Om Shanti Om, SRK has come forward with an apology.

Denying that there was a "conspiracy to humilitate and ridicule Manoj Kumar", Shah Rukh Khan said, "I don't want to hurt anyone. I dont think this film should be taken seriously, it's a comedy."

He also said that since Manoj Kumar had not said anything to him in person, he would not take it otherwise.

"Elderly people get jolted. Our fathers and grandfathers do that. I have a lot of respect for Manoj Kumar and I admit we should have been more careful," Shah Rukh added.

In a lighter vein he said, "I have been copying actors for the past 15 years. I never took anyone's permission. I think I should have called him to take his permission."

He also said that they have been getting a lot of messages from actors appreciating their work in the film and calling it a tribute to Indian cinema.

Earlier on Friday, Manoj Kumar had told CNN-IBN, "People who make such movies do not know the meaning of respect and decency. They are criminals."

The actor who gave a new definition to patriotism on celluloid said that the scene in Om Shanti Om — where his young double is shown being beaten up by the police outside a theatre — is in bad taste.

Om Shanti Om - Deepika's Story
Saturday, November 10, 2007
Deepika Padukone, making her Bollywood debut, certainly spark-les in Om Shanti Om, heralding possibly the arrival of a fresh talent in the Indian film industry.

There are many models who have made the transition to movies but, by common consent after today’s world premiere in London, there does appear to be something special about Deepika who stars opposite Shah Rukh Khan, the star of Om Shanti Om.

The film, directed by Farah Khan, uses reincarnation as a device to bring the hero and heroine back to life, 30 years after both perish in a fire. While western viewers may be puzzled by the concept of reincarnation, Indian audiences may not quarrel too much with the idea of the dead returning to life.

In this case, the characters played by Shah Rukh and Deepika — Om and Shantipriya — come back looking exactly like themselves and with their memories preserved from the past.

One aspect Shah Rukh made clear was that no religious significance should be attached to the use of reincarnation.

“I don’t believe in reincarnation,” he said bluntly. “The film industry is secular.”

At a news conference after today’s screening at the Empire Cinema in Leicester Square, Shah Rukh was flanked by Deepika and two of the other cast members, Arjun Rampal, who plays the film’s principal villain, and Shreyas Talpade (of Iqbal fame), who is Shah Rukh’s sidekick in the movie.

Shah Rukh called Om Shanti Om “a film within a film”, which, in a way, it is, for the tale begins with Om, a junior artist, and Shanti, the lead actress, meeting on the sets of Dream Girl. He rescues her when a fire scene goes wrong but is later unable to do so when the villain burns down Shanti on the set of a movie.

But not to worry. Three decades later, they are back, the same people, but with different names.

In between, Om Shanti Om develops into a Bollywood video with 30 stars. There are so many that it is difficult to keep count.

One moment it is Kajol and Rani Mukherjee, the next it is Preity Zinta, Priyanka Chopra, Amisha Patel, Saif Ali Khan, Sanjay Dutt (he must have found time in between his court appearances), Shabana Azmi and Rekha. Some old timers, such as Dharmendra, also join the party as well as Abhishek Bachchan. Even Shilpa Shetty, wearing her sari daringly low, does her bit.

Part of the film is shot in the style of the Hindi movies of the 1970s, which, Shah Rukh said, was “not a spoof”.

“You can make fun of yourself if you are confident of yourself,” Shah Rukh pointed out. It is more than likely that Om Shanti Om will be dissected by cinema academics in the UK for the benefit of their students so that they can identify the originals on which the sketches are based. Madhumati, Sholay, Amar Akbar Antony and Deewar were all mentioned in passing.

Despite its use of reincarnation, Om Shanti Om is not a deep film. But it is harmless fun that families might enjoy over Diwali.

It is only the English cinema scholars in Britain who will subject it to profound analysis.

Deepika is one of those lucky actresses whom the camera obviously loves.

“I could not have had a better launch,” she said.

Turning to Shah Rukh, she paid him a compliment which made everyone laugh: “I have grown up watching your films,” she said.

Why is Aamir Khan missing in the Deewangi song of Om Shanti Om ?
Monday, October 29, 2007

According to sources, Shah Rukh and Farah Khan were inspired by a song from Amitabh’s hit movie Naseeb - John, Johnny, Janardan . It is also believed that Shah Rukh’s wife Gauri Khan and friends like Karan Johar and Rohan Sippy tried hard to convince the Bachchans, but finally it was Farah who managed to convince them.

Why did Aamir Khan refuse to be part of OSO ? Aamir is not in the song. Farah Khan had approached him but he was too busy shooting his film Ghajini and wasn’t able to be a part of her film. She wish that she could bring Aamir, Shah Rukh and Salman dancing together in her film.

Wait to be over - OSO's 'Deewangee' to be out on Id
Monday, October 8, 2007
Ever since the promotion of OM SHANTI OM began, all eyes were set on one song - 'Deewangee'. Clearly the best of the lot that Vishal-Shekhar have to offer in their soundtrack for this Farah Khan film, the song was much anticipated, also due to the presence of 31 stars in it.

Come 'Id' and the song would finally be all over the music channels with the teasers already making a round in the internet world. Just on hearing the audio, one got hooked to the song. A sure shot chartbuster which could well have been the opening number for the film's promotion, 'Deewangi Deewangi' is what qualifies as a trademark number which could have been lapped up by Yash Raj Films or Dharma Productions.

Singers like Shaan, Udit Narayan, Shreya Ghoshal, Sunidhi Chauhan and Rahul Saxena (heard in Indian Idol) ensure that there is not a single dull moment in this instant-attention-grabbing track.

Boasting of the innocence in melody that was witnessed in the 70s and now presented in the 21st century 'avtar' with a fusion of 'qawalli', 'bhangra' and western arrangements, 'Deewangi Deewangi' that also incorporates the sound of 'Om Shanti Om', is all set to lit up the screen when it is played.

The song also appears in a remix version which is termed as 'Rainbow Mix'. The other songs which have already been aired across all channels and have found instant appreciation are the love song 'Aankhon Mein Teri', dance number 'Dard-E-Disco' and the romantic 'Main Agar Kahoon' where Shahrukh Khan serenades Deepika Padukone.

Gauri Khan in Om Shanti Om
Sunday, September 23, 2007
Hot gossips is going on that we will see soon gauri khan soon acting in "Om shanti Om" .For the first time ever , Gauri will play a little walk-in role in this film produced by her self.

The scene depicts Gauri to walk a red carpet for a song at the end of the movie as the credits come on. Typically Farah, the technicians and crew members of the movie take a bow too in this number. Farah had tried earlier in vain to convince the elusive Mrs Khan to make a guest appearance in her first movie, Main Hoon Na . “But she ditched me. I think, Shah Rukh convinced her to do it this time,” said Farah.
Gauri is said to get bored very easily of the takes and several retakes while shooting.

“She has no patience, that’s why we don’t try to get her in front of the camera,” explained Farah. “However, for this shot, she just had to step out of a car and walk the red carpet waving to the crowd like a star.” According to the director, Gauri did not require to put in much effort for this scene. “She is very natural before the camera and is poised and stylish even otherwise,” said Farah. “Next time, I’ll try and get her to do an entire song!”

That Gauri is a style diva in Bollywood, is known. Men are also reported to find her hot! And she has constantly attracted the attention of ad filmmakers and movie producers who have all tried unsuccessfully to lure her onto the screen. Mira Nair was one of them.
