Bollywood Jokes - 10 Rules for Bollywood Film Making
Tuesday, May 6, 2008
1. Two brothers separated in childhood will always grow up on different sides of the law. The law-breaker, however, will suddenly turn over a new leaf before the end, bash up the villain (who is the *real* bad guy), and be pardoned for all his sins before the last-scene family reunion. (This is possible only if he has a heroine - see rule 2 below).

2. If the number of heroes is not equal to the number of heroines, the excess heroes/heroines will a) die b) join the Red Cross and take off to Switzerland before the end of the movie.

3. If there are 2 heroes in a movie, they will fight each other savagely for at least 5 minutes (10 if they are brothers).

4. Any court scene will have the dialogue "Objection milord". If it is said by the hero, or his lawyer, it will be overruled. Else, it will be sustained.

5. The hero's sister will usually marry the hero's best friend (i.e. the second hero). Else, she will be raped by the villain within the 1st 30 minutes, and commit suicide.

6. In a chase, the hero will always overtake the villain, even on a bullock-cart, or on foot.

7. When the hero fires at the villain(s), he will never
a) miss
b) run out of bullets. When the villain fires at the hero, he will always miss (unless the hero is required to die, as in rule 2).

8. Any fight sequence shall take place in the vicinity of a stack of a) pots b) barrels c) glass bottles, which will be smashed to pieces.

9. Any movie involving lost and found brothers will have a song sung by
a) the brothers
b) their blind mother (but of course, she has to be blind in order to regain her sight in the climax)
c) the family dog/cat.

10. Police inspectors (when not played by the hero) come in two categories:
a) Scrupulously honest, probably the hero's father - killedby the villain before the titles.
b) Honest, but always chasing the anti-hero (as in Rule 1), saying "Tum kanoon se bach nahin sakte", only to pat him in the back in reel 23. Usually, this inspector's daughter is in love with the anti-hero.
c) The corrupt inspector, (usually the real villain's sidekick) unceremoniously knocked about by the hero(s) in the climax.

Bollywood Gossip - Nadiadwala takes Akshay Kumar to Hollywood
Saturday, March 15, 2008
Bollywood Gossip - After doing back-to-back comedies last year, it looks like Bollywood's star Akshay Kumar is hell bent on making 2008 his year of actioners.

Nadiadwala takes Akshay Kumar to Hollywood

In producer Sajid Nadiadwala's 'Kambakth Ishq', he plays a Hollywood stuntman and it will be shot in Universal Studios.

"This would be the first Indian film to be shot within Universal Studios. We've got the permission not only to shoot within the studio but also to use their logo. Akshay plays a stuntman from Universal Studios. We also had amazing superstars from Hollywood. We're working out the legal aspects," Nadiadwala said.

Apart from that, Akshay would be seen in Nikhil Advani's full on action flick 'Chandni Chowk to China'.

'Kambakth Ishq' is to be shot in Hollywood, Los Angeles, and the producer has roped in a new director Sabir Khan to helm the film.

"It'll also star 12-15 leading actors from Hollywood in various parts. It's a candyfloss, 'safe' film. We had to bring in an extra gloss in the backdrop. That's why Hollywood.

"When I produced 'Mujhse Shaadi Karogi', it was the first beach film in Bollywood. After that we had dozens of beach films in Hindi. Likewise my 'Jaan-e-Mann' was the first romantic comedy with visual effects. While making full-on commercial films we need to change the backdrop."

Nadiadwala agrees shooting 'Kambakth Ishq' in Hollywood won't be an easy task.

"It will be expensive, yes. We'll have 40-50 crewmembers flying to LA. We're thinking of chartering a flight from Mumbai. It'll be more economical. Or maybe we should just buy a jet," he joked.

This is Nadiadwala's most ambitious film to date with a budget of Rs.600 million. Kareena Kapoor plays a brand model.

Why a new director for such a lavish film?

"Sabir Khan has grown up in front of me. He assisted in my production 'Mujhse Shaadi Karogi'. He is very hardworking and if you're suggesting that I should've first let Sabir make a smaller film then let me say I don't make small films. I've dreamt 70mm dreams from before that format was invented."

Recently, the producer has been signing a lot of new directors.

Bollywood Gossip - Shyam Benegal turns to comedy
Sunday, March 9, 2008
The veteran filmmaker, who is trying his hand at comedy after a span of almost 25 years with his soon to be released Mahadev Ka Sajjanpur with talented actors Shreyas Talpade and Amrita Rao in the lead, says he had been looking forward to make a comedy film for years.

"I was looking for the right timing to make a comedy film but due to my professional and personal commitments, I was not getting the time to make it." This film is based on the life of letter writers in village post offices and their importance in the rural scenario, he said.

Benegal is also working actively on an international project named Gautam Buddha which will be funded by the Sri Lankan government and will be entirely shot in the island nation.

Denying that actors Hrithik Roshan and Amitabh Bachchan were approached for the film, Benegal said he was in touch with some of the Bollywood biggies for the same.

"It's an international project and in this movie we are going to show Siddharth's journey towards Buddhism. I am in touch with some of the leading stars of the industry to play pivotal roles in this movie," he said.

Benegal, who has always been considered as a pioneer of serious film-making, has changed a lot over the years and attributes it to the changing scenario of the Indian film industry.

"I have changed a lot over these years as it has been demanded by the diversification of our Indian film industry. To keep pace with the young lot of directors, you need to change, but then I have a wide range of diverse subjects, which interests me a lot and I will make films on my own
conditions," said Benegal.

Vidya Balan eager for doing comedy roles
Tuesday, December 4, 2007
Looks like Vidya Balan is trying hard to transform her looks and the serious image that she portrays onscreen by making a conscious choice of not only different characters but also different attires and hairstyles. Watch out for her upcoming flick, Aziz Mirza's Lucky Charm, where she is pitted opposite Shahid Kapoor. Compliment her on her looks and she says rather modestly, "Thank you for the compliment. I am working hard to change my appearance and hope my fans like it." The actress was criticised for her costumes in her last film Heyy Babyy. "I have accepted all the criticism that came my way. I had been a little lazy, but not anymore. I won't give my fans a chance to criticise me henceforth," she assures and adds, "In fact, I find myself comfortable wearing slacks with T-shirts and cotton 'salwar kameez'. I like to wear very less make-up. I like to appear as a simple girl-next-door."

The actress has been playing serious characters in almost all her ventures right from Parineeta, to Lage Raho Munnabhai, Heyy Babyy and now Bhool Bhulaiyaa. "Makers haven't offered me full fledged comedy roles yet, but I am hopeful that some good director, keeping faith in my comic abilities, would offer me such a role. I am dying to play a completely funny character," says Vidya.

Speaking about her forthcoming venture Halla Bol she says, "The story of this film is actually the journey of a man (Ajay Devgan) from being a reel hero to a real life hero. I play his wife, who stands by him throughout this journey. He stands up for what he believes in, though it is a difficult choice for him to make. I always hold up a mirror for him. There is certain consciousness that my character carries for him. Our families often do that and that is exactly what this girl, Sneha, does for him." Speaking about Ajay Devgan she says, "Undoubtedly he carries a 'serious actor' tag along with him, but he has also done some good comedies, which reflect more often in his off-screen behaviour on the sets when he is forever up to some prank on his co-stars. It was good fun working with him."

Quiz her about her role that appears to be small in this totally male dominated film and Vidya says, "I agree it is a small character, but being associated with a film like this in itself was a very special proposition for me. Better subjects are coming to the fore now, but the kind of films that Gulzaar saab or other makers attempted - movies with social conscience - are not made very often in today's times. 'Halla Bol' is such type of film. Rajkumar Santoshi is known for making such films and I enjoy being a part of it. Ideally, I feel films like 'Munnabhai', which are entertaining and yet carry a social message, should be made frequently as the audiences also prefer seeing such movies."

Ask her on her being linked to her co-stars John Abraham and now Shahid Kapoor, Vidya admits, "Frankly speaking these rumours troubled me earlier. I used to be very upset and angry. Sometimes I cried along as to why my name is being associated with something that is completely false. Now, I have overcome all that. I realised that as long as I am single my name will always be linked with my male co-stars to create some controversy or the other. It's the cost that we as celebrities have to pay". She signs off.
