Bollywood Gossip - Ash takes a whopping pay packet of Rs 4 crores
Wednesday, March 19, 2008
Bollywood Gossip : Now it can be told. The star-price war has escalated to an all-time high. With Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan carrying home a pay packet of Rs 4 crores for her proposed stint as Rajnikanth's leading lady in Shankar's Robot, the lady has now become the highest-paid actress of Indian cinema.

Aishwarya Rai

A source very close to Aishwarya says, "The media has got it all wrong. Ash has actually received twice the amount quoted in papers and on websites as her fee for Robot. Yes, it's close to Rs 4 crores. And she's very amused when she reads about this and that actress being the highest-paid actress in Bollywood. With three hits in a row (Guru, Dhoom 2 and Jodhaa Akbar) Ash's equity as a Rai and a Bachchan have gone through the roof. If she wants she can preen about her successes. But that's not her style. However, she takes strong exception to Bipasha Basu's quotes that she (Ash) had to 'hang around' to get into the international circuit. Ash has been regularly offered international projects, from Provoked to Mistress Of Spices to Bride & Prejudice to Last Legion to Pink Panther. In fact, all the other international assignments that have gone to other Bollywood actresses-including the honour of hosting the 7Wonders Of The World event in Lisbon with Ben Kingsley-have gone to Ash first. It's just that she feels awkward talking about herself."

As for her astronomical fee for Robot another source close to the project says, "It is no surprise that Aishwarya is getting 4 crores. It's still chicken-feed compared with what Rajnikanth gets paid. He takes home Rs 15 crores plus fifty percent of his film's profits. But still he cannot make a film commercially viable outside the Tamilian belt on his own. The dubbed Hindi version of Chandramukhi came and went. And Rajni's biggest hit Shivaji is in no hurry to be released in Hindi. With Ash in Robot it looks like an attractive non-regional film."

Bollywood Gossips-Salman's too expensive
Wednesday, February 6, 2008
A buzz was doing the round that Salman Khan had charged producer Vivek Galani a whooping sum of Rs 35 crore for Veer! Well, to give you a background, Veer is director Anil Sharma's (of Apne fame) next venture and will be written by none other than Sallu boy himself.

Now considering he is acting as well as writing, the sum isn't unthinkable. And the same bee that buzzed about Salman's amount buzzed noisily that Anil himself has charged Rs 7 crore. This would mean that the producers would be spending 42 crore on just Salman and Sharma!

But on asking, Sharma gets defensive, "Not at all. Our scripting has just been finished. Salman and I have worked day and night in getting it perfect. But it's way too early to discuss the final figures yet," he said. Yet, it's tough to believe that. Salman being Salman would not write an entire script without

having the figures known, if not cleared. We probed more. "See Salman has become very attached to the story and is personally involved in everything about the film. He would not possibly charge such a massive amount. He can't be so impractical," he retorted.

Anil gushed further saying, " The way he has visualised the story is brilliant. His seniority and experience shines through. I am very confident that the film will do well!" Well, we wish so too. Amen.

Saif Ali Khan jumps from a 22 storied building
Friday, January 4, 2008
Saif Ali Khan has turned action king for his forthcoming Tips film RACE. It is a known fact that actors have been using body doubles for doing complicated and dangerous stunts but Saif refused to do so.

RACE is an action film directed by the duo Abbas-Mustan. According to Abbas-Mustan "RACE being an action film has many dangerous stunts in it and all the stunts had to be shot in such a way that it looked dangerous as well as real." In one of the scenes Saif had to jump down from a 22 storied building and Saif refused to use a body double for the scene. He wanted to do the scene himself.

Though Saif was tied to a harness it was very dangerous as it was not a child's play to jump down from a 22 storied building. Says producer Ramesh Taurani, "We are thankful to Saif for doing this stunt. He did this not just once but thrice just to okay the shot. Everybody on the sets would get frightened and our hearts would stop beating as soon as he jumped down."

All the necessary precautions were taken while shooting the scenes. A doctor and an ambulance were kept ready on the sets as a part of precautionary measures. Hats off to Saif for being such courageous person and doing such difficult stunts.

Deepika Padukone charges One Crore
Having got her big break opposite Shah Rukh Khan in ‘Om Shanti Om’, Deepika Padukone will now be seen with Sharman Joshi in Rakesh Roshan’s unititled next celluloid venture.

Incidentally, the success of ‘Om Shanti Om’ has sky-rocketed Deepika’s demand among the Bollywood crop of directors and now we learn that the lass is demanding a whopping Rs one crore fee for each film that she is signing!

If both the news makes you raise your eye-brows, we have more for you. We are told that when Rakesh Roshan decided to take up the new venture, he had thought of casting a more popular face as the film’s hero.

However, as it is basically a heroine-oriented film, no actor worth his name or value was willing to oblige the senior Roshan. Hence, he had to settle on Sharman Joshi.

Meanwhile, industry sources say that despite being a heroine-oriented film, the venture may prove to be detrimental for Deepika at this nascent stage of her career.

They argue that heroine-oriented films are neither given much importance by the Bollywood crowd, nor are they great crowd pullers at the box office.

Interestingly, these days even the women in the audience are not too fond of heroine-oriented films.

Now what remains to be seen is how the new celluloid pair fares at the box office.

The audience as well as those in the industry not only has great expectations from Rakesh Roshan, whose all previous films have been super-duper hits, but also on Deepika.

We earnestly hope and pray that this film also proves to be a boon for Deepika, for Bollywood has the unique reputation of elevating a non-entity on Cloud 9 in one movie and then tumbling them to obscurity in another.

We sincerely hope that this does not happen to Deepika.
