Bollywood Gossips - Roshans in Trouble!!
Saturday, April 12, 2008
Bollywood Gossips : The worst has struck Roshans. Music composer Ram Sampath, who moved court asking for Rs 2 crore as damages from the Krazzy 4 producers for copying his tune to compose four tracks, has won the legal battle today.

Giving its verdict on an appeal filed by 32-year-old ad jingle music composer, the Mumbai High Court has ordered the Roshans to remove the title track ‘Krazzy 4’, before it hits cinema theatres tomorrow.

Hrithik Roshan

Sampath, had stated in his appeal that the Roshans copied his 60-second music titled ‘The Thump’. The young composer had created the title for a mobile phone television advertisement last year and the Roshans had used the same tone in the title track of their upcoming flick ‘Krazzy 4’ without his consent.

Apparantly Roshans know that the stakes are too hish and their desperation was evident in court. Within hours of offering Rs 2 lakh per month to Sampath as ad-interim relief, the offer was raised to Rs 25 lakh and then “any amount that the court thinks appropriate”.

In the meanwhile the court instructed the Roshans to delete two songs if they want to release the film tomorrow.

"To my untrained ear, the music appeared to be similar", Justice Karnik, who listened to both Sampath's work for a Sony Ericsson cellphone advertisement, and the two songs composed by Rajesh Roshan for the film, said.

This means that Hrithik and SRK's Break Free item numbers will have to be removed from the film, which seems like a daunting task as the film prints have already been dispatchedfor the overseas release, as well as territories outside Mumbai.

Though Roshans’ lawyer Arif Bookwala pleaded the court not to stay the release of the film on Friday, Sampath’s lawyer Virendra Tulzapurkar said that mere monetary compensation would not suffice. “The SMS-s sent by Hrithik establish that they knew the music was not created by them. They have done this knowingly and deliberately.”

He added that his client was a “small time artiste” and needed to be protected when his work was plagiarised by such “big people”.

He also presented the opinion of Shiv Mathur, an independent expert, who confirmed Sampath’s allegation of plagiarism. Tulzapurkar added that the defendants were earning Rs 7 crore per month simply from ringtone downloads and Rs 2.5 crore per month from the sale of the music.

But Roshans' woes don't end here. We hear that their Krazzy 4 is a straight copy of the Hollywood film The Dream Team.

The posters of the two movies are similar and both the films are about four mentally unstable men and how they get out of a mental asylum to figure out that the outer world is as crazy as them.

In his defense, director of the film Jaideep Sen said that the similarity in the films is “sheer coincidence.”

Bollywood Gossips - I Love You too, Deepika declares to Ranbir
Friday, February 29, 2008
Bollywood Gossips - The backstage of the53rd Annual Filmfare went on fire suddenly, when eavesdroppers heard the stunning Deepika Padukone softly declare “I Love You” to Ranbir Kapoor.

This bit of news was thousand times spicier than what was happening on stage. The eavesdroppers blessed their luck on witnessing the soft romance between the “oh so in love” couple. Looking deep in her eyes, Ranbir first confessed his love by saying, "I love you", and then Deepika responded shyly.

Reports say that after the romantic declaration, the lovey-dovey couple left for Farah Khan’s party, where they were seen holding hands and even kissing.

Earlier, Ranbir had refuted the entire romantic link-up between him and Deepika by stating that, "We have been friends. Then she was busy with her first film`s release and I was busy with mine. Recently we were shooting in Australia and became friendly again. She`s an amazing, caring girl. I enjoy spending time with her."

Sources say that cupid struck during the shoot for Siddharth Anand’s film in Australia. Since then, they’ve been pretty much together and have often been seen in public. The duo was recently seen in a highly entertaining advertisement, which also features SRK as Deepika’s brother.

It seems that our worthy cricketers (read Yuvraj and Dhoni) have been stumped in favour of “Saawariya” Ranbir. Never mind guys, better luck next time!

Tearful Meghalaya still calls Amit Indian Idol
Monday, September 24, 2007
Shillong, September 24: The hills of Meghalaya were on song until Sunday midnight, but it all went out of tune when local singing sensation Amit Paul was edged out by Darjeeling cop Prashant Tamang in the hugely popular television contest Indian Idol.

Thousands of people had been singing and dancing to the accompaniment of drums and guitars in the streets of Shillong and most parts of Meghalaya since dusk Sunday, eagerly waiting for Amit to win the Indian Idol title.

But when Bollywood macho star John Abraham raised the hand of Prashant declaring him the Indian Idol - based on 70 million votes received on SMS or over the phone lines - the music was abruptly stilled.

The Meghalaya fans rallied fast, however.

'We are really taken aback by the result, but for us Amit is the winner, having won the hearts of millions of fans and more importantly, uniting the ethnically polarized northeast through music,' John F. Kharshiing, spokesperson of the Federation of Khasi States, the apex body campaigning for legal status for the durbars in Meghalaya, told.

It was pure hysteria in the whole of Meghalaya in the run-up to the grand finale Sunday night telecast on Sony TV with Amit and Prashant vying for the coveted crown.

'Let's accept the reality, don't cry for me. I am soon coming back to Shillong. I really thank and love you all from the bottom of my heart for supporting me throughout my musical journey on Indian Idol,' Amit told by telephone from New Delhi, the venue of the finals.

But people back home were in tears - hundreds of people, both young and old who remained awake to celebrate a possible victory broke down, some of them even wailing, unable to accept the verdict.

'For us Amit is the new role model, some sort of a youth icon for generation next to emulate that music is one medium that unites the hearts cutting across cultural and ethnic barriers,' Meghalaya Education Minister R.G. Lyngdoh said.

Amit, 24, is a Bengali-speaking youth born and brought up in Shillong - a city that was witness to a string of bloody ethnic riots in the mid-80s between tribals and non-tribals. The growing schism in the northeast between the indigenous population and 'outsiders', a term broadly used for people speaking other Indian languages, has become a matter of concern.

In this context, the euphoria and the support from people across the northeast for Amit is heartening.

'We have conferred him the honorary title of Meghalaya's Brand Ambassador to foster peace, communal harmony, and excellence,' Meghalaya Chief Minister D.D. Lapang said.

Lapang personally spearheaded the campaign to drum up support for Amit.

From government offices to the tribal king's durbars, the chief minister's secretariat to the Raj Bhawan, and schools and colleges - the only topic of discussion in the past few weeks in the northeastern state of Meghalaya was the Indian Idol contest.

'The Amit phenomenon could very well unite the northeast, especially in states like Nagaland and Manipur where the ethnic divide is so huge. We want more such talents from the region to come up so that we can stand united without any bloodshed,' said Kishore Singh, a young college student in Manipur's capital Imphal.

'The topic of discussion for the next few days would surely be Amit. Maybe Prashant got lot of votes from Nepal because he is a Nepali boy. Maybe Nepal came in the way of Amit's victory,' said a dejected Paul Marbaniang, a college student.
