Bollywood News - Disney to launch 'Tare Zameen Par' DVD
Tuesday, July 22, 2008
Bollywood News : Walt Disney Studios has acquired the home-video rights for Tare Zameen Par for the US market, reports Our Bureau from New Delhi.

The US entertainment major is looking at a mainstream DVD launch of the movie rather than just concentrating on NRI pockets.

As per sources, Disney acquired the rights for an estimated Rs 5 crore. Rather than dubbing the movie in English, Disney would release the movie with English sub-titles.

According to Aamir Khan Production (AKPL) and PVR Pictures, this the first time that an American major has picked up home-video rights for an Indian movie for a mainstream launch.

When contacted, an AKPL official said: "The film has done well on the overseas box office, especially in the US. Now that Disney is planning a mainstream launch for the movie in the US, we hope it does well in the home-video space too."

He added that the movie was picked up by Disney as it caters to children's issues.

"Jaane Tu..." rakes in Rs.150 mn first week!
Saturday, July 19, 2008
Bollywood News Mumbai, July 18 (IANS) : Romantic flick "Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na" has broken the dry spell at the box-office, grossing nearly Rs.150 million in the first week of its release.

This revenue figure could be because of the high-ticket prices in the multiplexes but it is nonetheless a windfall for a movie starring mostly newcomers.

A joint venture of Aamir Khan Productions and PVR Cinema, the film is Aamir's nephew Imran's debut vehicle.

Even for Genelia D'Souza, who earlier appeared in three Hindi movies, "Jaane Tu..." is her first Bollywood hit in a leading role.

The movie's whopping success has firmly consolidated her position in the industry, shadowing her rising career down South.

Incidentally, the box-office dominance of "Jaane Tu..." has created worries for producers whose movies are due for release.

Last week, producer Jagdish Sharma's "Good Luck" and director Mani Shankar's "Mukhbiir" could not be released in many of the multiplexes as the management suddenly increased the additional screens available there for "Jaane Tu..." keeping public demand for the movie

Bollywood Gossip - Aamir apologies for his 'Shahrukh' blog entry
Tuesday, May 20, 2008
Bollywood Gossip : (IANS) Putting an end to the blog controversy, Bollywood actor Aamir Khan Tuesday apologised for his blog entry where he said he had a dog named 'Shahrukh', inviting criticism from King Khan's fans and shocking people in the Hindi film industry.

Aamir told newsmen at the residence of yesteryears' Bollywood actor Shammi Kapoor: 'I just wrote it out of humour and if it has hurt the feelings of mine or Shahrukh's fans then I apologise to all.'

The actor also said that he shares a healthy relationship with Shah Rukh Khan.

The actor had reportedly proclaimed that he has a dog by the name of 'Shahrukh'. The unflattering comment had sent shock waves through the film industry.

Commenting on the episode, Shah Rukh had said: 'Earlier, people used to name their children after famous people. Somebody naming a dog after a known person is a new beginning in that direction. I don't have a copyright over this name if used non-commercially.'

Bollywood Gossips - Aamir Khan gives nephew moral support
Tuesday, May 6, 2008
Bollywood News : Imran Khan has been feeling pangs of nervousness before his first promo of Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na, which hits the marquee on this Sunday. He called Aamir Khan to share his nervousness, during the conversation Aamir Khan realized that his nephew was nervous and asked him to take the next flight to Hyderabad on Tuesday.

Aamir Khan Photo Gallery

Aamir Khan is going through the most grueling schedule of Ghajini in Hyderabad. Even with a 14-hour day shift, he took time out to spend most of his time with his nephew Imran Khan between the shots. People, who know Aamir, would know how unusual this is, as when he is shooting he likes to be completely involved in his shooting and not meet lot of people. In fact, director AR Murgadoss was also seen talking and chatting with Imran Khan.

During the conversation, Imran admitted to Aamir that he was worried and a bit nervous about his first photo shoot. So promptly, he called Avi (Avinash Gowarikar) to Hyderabad to have the photo shoot done in Hyderabad next day, where he could be around to give moral support.

Source close to Aamir Khan says, "It was reminiscent of Aamir Khan's launch himself, during the days of QSQT…he would be going through nervous phases and both Naseer Sahib and Mansoor Khan would sit with him and talk to him. Aamir has been through the earlier days of first promo going on air and knows how it feels."

Bollywood Gossip - Aamir accepts Dinanath Mangeshkar Award
Friday, April 25, 2008
Bollywood Gossip : Actor Aamir Khan does not believe in contesting or receiving awards but this was one award that he could not refuse. The Dinanath Mangeshkar award bestowed on him by Lata Mangeshkar.
Despite an injury suffered on the sets of Gajini, Mr Perfectionist made his presence felt and was overwhelmed with the honour.

"I would have come on wheel chair," said Aamir.

Though Aamir couldn't walk properly he made it a point to attend this ceremony. As not everyone has the distinction of being honoured by the first family of Hindi film music, the Mangeshkars.

Aamir was awarded by Lata Mangeshkar for his contribution to Indian cinema. "I am very happy that he came to attend the ceremony," said Lata Mangeshkar.

And his making an exception obviously struck the right cords with the songstress. "He is like my brother," said the nightingale.

Some actors just know how to separate the wheat from the chaff when it comes to awards.

Bollywood Gossip - Kareena's dream finally come true
Tuesday, April 22, 2008

Kareena Kapoor

Bollywood Gossip : It’s finally happening. Bollywood has put together the dream team of Kareena Kapoor and Aamir Khan for Raj Kumar Hirani’s film Idiots. Kareena, who has signed on three big projects lately, including Sajid Nadiadwala’s Kambakht Ishq with Akshay Kumar and Renzel d’Silva’s untitled film with beau Saif Ali Khan, is thrilled to be working with Aamir. “It’s a dream,” she exclaimed, “we recently came close to working on two films together, Vishal Bhardwaj’s Mr Mehta And Mrs Singh and Mani Ratnam’s Lajjo, but it’s finally happening now.”

She is also looking forward to doing another film with Saif after Omkara and Tashan. “Renzil’s film has a stunning script. And I’m doing something in it I’ve never done before,” she said, declining to elaborate. But she added, “It’s important to keep our personal and professional lives apart. Saif and I need to concentrate on our individual careers. There’s no marriage for me for the next five years.”

As for Tashan, she’s worked really hard on the film and is hoping her hard work pays, because “it wouldn’t hurt to have another hit after Jab We Met”. Right now, she is at peace with herself. She’s looking fab and feeling great. “People are saying I want to be like Victoria Beckham. I think the talk started when Saif got himself tattooed with my name. David Beckham had done the same for Victoria. But I’m proud of my sculpted body. Why should I want to be like anyone else? I look no different from the way I looked earlier. I guess I’m just happy in life, and that shows,” said Kareena.

Bollywood Gossip - New talent for Aamir's Delhi Belly
Monday, April 14, 2008
Swedish director Robert Nylund, who was roped in to direct Aamir Khan's next production Delhi Belly, is no more at the helm of affairs.

The actor has hired ad filmmaker Abinay Deo, who directed Hrithik Roshan's Cinthol commercial, to wield the megaphone for the film, which will probably be made in English.

"Robert Nylund has been replaced by Abinay, who is well known character actors Ramesh and Seema Deo's younger son (the elder one Ajinkya Deo is a recognised Marathi and Hindi actor) and the film was originally going to be in Hindi. It's now in English," a source close to the project said.

This is a big bright bustling break for the young ad maker who has directed Shah Rukh Khan, Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone for a high-budget Pepsi ad.

"In an instant replay of what happened between Aamir and Amole Gupte during Taare Zameen Par, Aamir couldn't see eye to eye with the Swedish director. After Delhi Belly was without a director, Aamir was very impressed by Abhinay's ads. When they met, he found Abhinay to be bright and full of ideas," the source added.

Apparently, Abhinay has been asked to direct Delhi Belly on the lines of Guy Ritchie's heist caper Snatch.

"It would be a very naughty and sexy comedy unlike anything one would expect from Aamir. And yes, he's likely to play a part in it," the source said.

Bollywood Gossip-Shahid pays tribute to Aamir ?
Wednesday, February 6, 2008
Is that a Bollywood News, Gossip or Scoop ??

Seems like Bollywood Actor Shahid Kapur / Kapoor pays tribute to his favourite actor Aamir Khan by playing a teacher who helps a group of troubled young students in his new movie Paathshaala.

The similarities between Bollywood film Taare Zameen Par and this film are striking.

Choreographer-turned-producer and Shahid's close friend Ahmed Khan doesn't deny the fact that Taare Zameen Par has made a huge difference to the way we look at movie entertainment and at the parent-child relationship.

'I would happily admit that Paathshaala is inspired by Taare Zameen Par, except for the fact that 'Paathshala' was conceived and written a year ago. It's about a sensitive teacher's interaction with a group of kids,' said Ahmed.

'I've signed some really talented kids like Sweeney Khare from Bollywood movies Cheeni Kum, Ali Haji from Fanaa and Dwij Yadav from Nanhe Jaisalmer. We're really fortunate to suddenly have so many talented kids in our cinema. So why not put them to creative use? It's about time we addressed issues regarding children in a serious but entertaining way,' said Ahmed.

Interestingly, Ahmed has selected some of the most extraordinary child actors to come into the film industry in the last couple of years.

'And on top of that, let's not forget I was once a child actor myself,' laughed Ahmed who played a child in Mr India.

'Shahid too was a child actor. So we're all putting our minds into making a film about the mind of a child and the child within the man.'

Ahmed has directed two films, Lakeer and Fool N Final. However, Bollywood film Paathshala is being directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali's assistant Milind Ukey.

About Fool N Final, Ahmed said: 'Please don't blame me. Blame the producer. For the first time in Paathshaala, I'm doing a film straight from my heart.'

The set representing the school where 'teacher' Bollywood Actor Shahid does an Aamir has been erected in Film City.

'We even have a basketball court as part of the school set,' said Ahmed proudly.

Aamir's charm at Jaipur Literary Fest
Monday, January 28, 2008
This was surely a festival of 'thinking men'. Aamir Khan was the flavour of the day at the Jaipur Literary Festival on Saturday. The Taare Zameen Par star spoke about his films , the creative process and how he is willing to take risks and deliver with perfection.

"People all over the world will acknowledge India as a cinematic destination. We have the potential to entertain the whole world. We can be the numero uno but I do not want others to be left behind", he said to the crowd.

"Through Taare Zameen Par, I have tried to say that when we imbue children with a competitive feeling, then they tend to lose sensitivity. Being ahead in the rat race at all costs makes them apathetic towards those who are less privileged", he added.

Speaking mostly in Hindi, he also said that he would like to share his experiences of learning the art of film-making as a teacher, in the future.

Khan is a four-letter word that spells box-office magic
Monday, January 7, 2008
Khan is a four-letter word that spells box-office magic.

When Mangal Pandey was released in 2005, Aamir Khan was asked how long his luck would work at the box office. "At least for another 20 years," he had replied.

It looks like the actor's prophecy was spot on. And that seems to hold true for the other two Khans as well.

The year 2007 was dominated by Shah Rukh, Salman and Aamir, who delivered the biggest hits of the year. The only other actor who came close to them was Akshay Kumar with hits like Namastey London, Heyy Babyy, Bhool Bhulaiya and Welcome.

One actor who could have taken on the Khan might -- Hrithik Roshan -- did not have any release.

Aamir Khan in a still from Taare Zameen ParSo it was the Khans' playground with Shah Rukh leading the pack. The stupendous success of Om Shanti Om and Chak De! India only helped solidify his King Khan status. Salman's Partner and Aamir's directorial debut Taare Zameen Par were the other big hits from the Khan fraternity.

So exactly how does the Khan magic work?

According to Spice Marketing Communication Agency trade analyst Prabhat Chaudhary, "All these Khans are pre-liberalisation period heroes and have established a certain fan following. Their audiences and fan base have grown up with them so to watch their films is like an event for Indian families.

"There is a generation of loyalty in Indian families for the Khans and that has remained the same," he adds. "This generation just refuses to let them go. That loyalty base has not shifted to any other hero in the last so many years and that is the reason for the Khans' rule."

And so year after year, for the last 20 years, one of the Khans has always managed to deliver some of the biggest hits at the box office. If Aamir started the hit trend with the success of Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, Salman continued the run with Maine Pyaar Kiya, followed by Shah Rukh's Baazigar and Darr.

Salman Khan in a still from PartnerSalman then followed up with the smash hi
