Celina harrassed & racially abused!
Tuesday, December 25, 2007
The story of three Marathi actors who were denied entry into a restaurant in a suburban Mumbai's 7-star hotel isn't isolated.

Celina Jaitley recently had a nightmarish experience in the same hotel. "I went into the sports' lounge of this hotel with a gay foreigner friend of mine for just ten minutes.

I saw a tall imposing middleaged German guy making obscene gestures at me. At first I ignored him out of embarrassment. Then he got bolder and came up to me to tell me in German in picturesque detail what he'd like to do to me.

He didn't know I speak German fluently. That was it. I asked the hotel's authorities to deal with the situation, since they hadn't allowed my bodyguard in. Forget about challenging the German lecher they said they didn't know who he was!

Luckily I had seen him sign his room number on his bill."

When the posh hotel's cowardly personnel did nothing to help Celina, she left but returned the next day with three vans of cops, got the man out of his room and confronted him.

"He fell to his knees and cried and begged saying he has a wife and children back home. He should've thought of them when he treated me to such vulgar intentions.

I made him write an apology and then for his family's sake decided not to press charges. The worst thing was, nobody in the hotel wanted to co-opearate with me in dealing with this situation.

Even some of my well-wishers advised me to forget about it. What I want to know is, whom do these hotels cater to?

Are they for us Indians? Or are all the amenities and facilities only for foreigners? Why are foreigners given such blatantly preferential treatment in these posh hotels?"

The actress decided to speak up on the matter after she heard about the humiliation of the Marathi actors who weren't allowed in because of their kolhapure chappals.

"This isn't the first time that such an incident has happened. Some time ago, a dress designer friend of mine requested the same hotel's security to inspect his car in the portico as he didn't want the clothes in the car to get wet in the rain.

There was an argument. They slammed the car bonnet on his hand and fractured it…Don't they care about people who are not foreigners? Are these high-flying places so busy making big bucks that they've forgotten a basic sense of decency?"

Madhuri dons dancing shoes for "Aaja Nachle"
Thursday, November 22, 2007
MUMBAI (Reuters Life!) - Madhuri Dixit, one of Bollywood's biggest stars whose dancing sizzled the screen for years, will play a choreographer who returns to her roots in a film marking her comeback to acting after six years.

At 42, Dixit's return is eagerly watched by an industry where men play romantic heroes well into their 50s but leading ladies start losing their appeal -- and roles -- by the time they reach 30 or get married.

Dixit's career began two decades ago and she quickly won recognition for her acting skills and nubile dancing.

Now married with two children and living in the United States, Dixit has lost none of her screen allure, says the director of her comeback film "Aaja Nachle", a musical with several dance scenes due to premiere next week.

"We thought it would take a little time for her to come back to her groove after six years but she proved us wrong," Anil Mehta told Reuters.

"She was always doing everything with perfection, a quality you associate Madhuri with."

Mehta said the actress, who began her career as a little-known model, is as nimble as ever, executing Western moves, Indian classical dancing or even raunchy Bollywood gyrations in mid-riff baring saris with ease.

The film tells the story of a passionate dancer who makes it big as a choreographer and moves to live in the United States.

She returns to India after hearing that her dance guru was on his deathbed and after he passes away, she devotes herself to saving a theatre where she learnt dancing as a child.

"It is her fight to save her roots from dying," Mehta said. "We could not think of any other actress to play the lead role of a film that had so many dance portions other than Madhuri."

Mehta said his team was so mesmerised with Dixit's dancing that all they did during post-production was watch the scenes of her dancing again and again.

"She is as graceful as she was and she is back with her best in the film," he said.

I am the right choice, Kareena tells SRK
Thursday, September 20, 2007
Kareena Kapoor is one persistent girl. She is very eager to be part of Shankar's Robot which has Shah Rukh Khan in the lead. Kareena is believed to be so eager to be part of the film that she apparently visited SRK at his house to convince him that she was right for the role.

Kareena is known to go to great lengths to prepare for her roles. Since she wants to bag this plum role opposite SRK so badly, it is but obvious that she would go the whole hog to ensure that she gets it. She has always admitted openly that she is an ardent SRK fan.

After Asoka, she has not got a chance to act opposite him in a film. The two were in Karan Johar's Kabhie Khushie, Kabhie Gham, but not opposite each other. Since then, she has been wanting to work with SRK. And Shankar's Robot seemed just the right project for her to work with SRK.

So Kareena visited SRK's home in Bandra, and in the presence of Gauri Khan, is believed to have pitched for herself to play the heroine in Robot. Incidentally, Robot was first planned with Kamal Hassan in the lead by Shankar. However, the role finally went to Shah Rukh. Though Shankar is silent about it, the film is believed to be a science fiction. It is futuristic, says sources.
