Bollywood Gossip: Bollywood Actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan will soon be headed to France for the 65th Cannes Film Festival, from May 16 to 27.This year will mark Ash’s 11th consecutive appearance at the festival.

As every year, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan will attend the gala as the brand ambassador of an international cosmetic line she endorses. She will be accompanied by her mother Brinda Rai and will reportedly fly down with her five- month- old daughter Aaradhya, although hubby Abhishek Bachchan will not accompany her this time.

Incidentally, Ash will be representing the cosmetic brand along with two other Indian faces, Freida Pinto and Sonam Kapoor. This will be Freida’s second appearance at Cannes. However, Freida will attend the festival alone because boyfriend- actor Dev Patel is busy promoting his new film, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel .

Although Aishwarya Rai Bachchan hasn’t zeroed in on what she will wear on the Cannes red carpet, sources said she might choose an ethnic outfit by Indian designer. Her recent appearance at the party thrown by Mukesh and Nita Ambani at Antilla brought her under the scanner. Several fashionistas and her detractors lambasted her for making a public appearance despite her increased weight and bloated face that she acquired post pregnancy.With less than a week to go for Cannes, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan will obviously have no time to get in shape for the film festival.

She will have no option but to flaunt XLsize designer wear on the red carpet. “ Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is enjoying motherhood and is not worried about how she looks,” her spokesperson said. “ Aishwarya will take her daughter along because she cannot stay away from the newborn,” confirmed the actress’s spokesperson.

Bollywood News:  “I was being bullied. I was angry, but I was not drunk,” superstar Shah Rukh Khan has said, finally speaking about last night’s incident at the Wankhade stadium. He says he is owed an apology. The actor has been banned from the stadium by the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), which has also filed a police complaint accusing him of being drunk and misbehaving, abusing, manhandling, using filthy language against guards and abusing a woman. Shah Rukh Khan says his children were “physically manhandled in the name of security,” and he will file a written complaint against the MCA, which, he says, needs a lesson in polite behavior.

Shah Rukh Khan said he had not attended the match, in which his IPL team the Kolkata Knight Riders beat the Mumbai Indians. He recounted that he only went to the stadium to pick up his children and saw that stadium officials “were pushing, touching little girls, and that is unpardonable.” He has also denied that he abused a woman fan.

The popular actor was dismissive about the MCA’s ban saying “I would not like to go to a stadium where people are so rude.” Shah Rukh admitted he had used abusive language but said it was provoked. “I took little children for the match and 40 grown-up people came charging aggressively at me,” he said. “I think my behavior is absolutely correct. I would still do the same thing if they misbehaved with my kids or kids that I am taking care of,” the actor said.

The MCA, which administers the Wankhade stadium, has alleged that the actor tried to force his way onto the grounds after the match and when he was prevented from doing so, got abusive and pushed people.

Central minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, who heads the MCA, said, “I was told he used abusive language…they tried to pacify him but he wasn’t in the mood,” said In Delhi, Rajiv Shukla, the chairman of the IPL said that reports of a ban are incorrect. He said a decision has yet to be taken, and that the version of “the franchisee” will also be considered. There are no other matches scheduled for his team at the Wankhede Stadium for the rest of the tournament.

The Mumbai Police say they are verifying facts in the complaint that the MCA has filed against Shah Rukh Khan, the Morani brothers and others. ACP Iqbal Sheikh, Assistant Commissioner of Police, said the actor, who smelt of alcohol, seemed to have taken umbrage at some members of his entourage being told not to be on the ground. He also said that smelling of alcohol was not an offence and he was sure the actor had not been drinking at the stadium.

The top cop said he arrived at the site of the scuffle late and had whisked away the actor to defuse the situation. Shah Rukh Khan, he said, was shouting abuses as he was pulled away. “There was a heated argument…only foul language was used,” the cop said.

The police said they are trying to trace witnesses to piece together the incident as it happened. They would call the actor in only if required, ACP Iqbal said.

The MCA is holding its ground. “We have decided to ban him for life from entering the stadium in future,” MCA treasurer Ravi Savant said, adding “SRK was dead drunk, our security tried to stop him but he pushed him and abused in such filthy language that I cannot use it here.”

Mr Savant said after KKR’s 32-run rout of the Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium, Shah Rukh Khan and his posse of bodyguards went up to the teams’ dressing room and then came down and tried to go on to the ground.

The actor has been caught in controversy before when he was seen smoking on April 8 at the Sawai Man Singh in Jaipur much to the disapproval of many. This is also the second brawl that the actor has allegedly been involved in in recent times. Some months ago he was reported to have got into a scuffle with Shirish Kunder, the husband of director Farah Khan at a private party hosted by Sanjay Dutt in Mumbai.

The Shah Rukh Khan controversy also comes very soon after the cash-rich T-20 tournament was rocked by a sting operation conducted by a TV news channel, in which five IPL players were purportedly caught on camera indulging in spot-fixing and other “murky deals.” A BCCI inquiry into that will begin today. Ravi Sawani, who heads the BCCI’s anti-corruption unit will conduct the inquiry.

The five accused players have been suspended pending the inquiry report.

Bollywood Gossip:  Bollywood actress Rekha took oath as a Rajya Sabha MP on May 15, 2012. Rekha was one of the most popular Bollywood actresses in 1980s. Known for her flashy jewellery and heavy sarees, Rekha chose to be different for Rajya Sabha.

President Pratibha Patil had approved her name and that of cricketer Sachin Tendulkar for the Upper House. Sachin Tendulkar is expected to take oath on May 16, 2012. Rekha met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh before taking oath.

Bollywood News:  Over a thousand dancers have attempted a Guinness World Record for most people performing a Bollywood routine. The event was staged at London’s Victoria Embankment Gardens to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support, reports the BBC UK.

“It’s amazing to think that three event amateurs pulled this together. I didn’t think it would all come together until today,” said organiser Rob Dunderdale.

The event was held as a tribute to Bollywood fan Sophie Parr from Somerset, who died of cancer at the age of 24. Performers danced to the Pussycat Dolls’ version of AR Rahman’s Grammy Award-winning track ‘Jai Ho’.

Choreographer Jay Kumar explained: “‘Jai Ho’ is a great song to dance to because it crosses over boundaries – many non-Asians understand ‘Jai Ho’.” 11 other satellite events took place at the same time at locations in in the UK, Australia and Malaysia.

Parr’s father Malcolm said of his daughter: “She was a vivacious and vibrant girl, who loved music and bright colours.”

Dancers involved in the performance will have to wait for adjudicators to verify the number of people who took part before finding out if the record was broken.

Bollywood News: While the topic of the second episode of Aamir Khan’s TV show Satyamev Jayate was already out in the media before the show was aired on May 13, it still came as a shocker to audiences who were not used to seeing such a thing being discussed openly. True, news channels and programmes by NGOs have covered the issue of child sexual abuse before, but families uncomfortable with watching it would simply switch channels while they were being aired. But when the serious issue was being tackled by Aamir Khan, people watched in rapt attention.

The sexual abuse of children is a horrible reality, and many are unaware of its extent. Research has shown that as many as 53 per cent, or one in every two children, are victims of child sexual abuse. Contrary to belief, the home is not the safest place for a child, as many abusers are trusted by the family. In addition to educating children and encouraging them to be brave enough to say No to abuse, parents themselves need to be sensitive to their children’s signals. Moreover, a robust and specific law against child sexual abuse must be put in place to protect the child and vigorously punish the abuser.

At the beginning of the show, Aamir Khan says “As a citizen of India, this programme is a humble contribution in discharge of my social responsibility. I assure my audidence, that I dont intend to defame any person, hurt anyone’s emotions or to deliver any verdict.

Today, our society faces several challenges. Instead of confronting these issues, sometimes we pretend to ignore them. It encourages the perpetrators of injustice, emboldens them. I only wish to dissect, discuss such issues openly, so that we may discover solutions.
