Taare Zameen Par is in news not only because it is the first film Aamir Khan has officially directed, but also because it is the only movie that has been declared tax-free just five days after its release.

Despite the film having a bold and unconventional theme like Dyslexia, a learning disorder from which several children suffer, Taare Zameen Par has turned out to be a box office hit.

Making films with strong social or national messages tax-free is a popular trend. Recently, Chak De India was also made tax-free thanks to its message of unity in diversity.

Other films that were declared tax free in the past include Lage Raho Munnabhai, Guru, Pooja Bhatt’s Dhokha, Rang De Basanti, Lakshya, Koi Mil Gaya and the list goes on.

In fact, Anurag Kashyap’s Hanuman Returns has been declared tax-free even before its release.
