‘Bollywood babe’ to play burqa-wearing Muslim sparks lawsuit

Andrabi decided to sue the makers of Lamhaa, a Bollywood blockbuster about the plight of Kashmir and the lives of militants fighting Indian rule, when she discovered Basu had been cast to play her character.
She had held a number of earlier meetings with the film’s producer, she said, in which he reassured her she would be truthfully portrayed and sympathetic to the struggle of Kashmiri separatists.
Andrabi became a militant women’s leader in the early 1980s and formed her own group, Dukhtaran e Millat (Daughters of the Nation) to campaign against families who married off their poor daughters, the payment of dowries and pornography. She led a group of activists who defaced Bollywood billboards showing revealing pictures of actresses like Basu.
She believes Kashmir should be allowed to leave the Indian union and join Pakistan, though she says there are only two countries in the world – “Muslims and non-muslims” – and advocates jihad to advance the power of Islam.
In her private life, she is married to a notorious Kashmiri militant, with whom she has two children, she observes purdah and wears a burqa in public. She has said that a woman’s place is in the kitchen, cooking for her family.
She consulted lawyers when she read newspaper reports that she would be played by Basu in the film. Her worst fears were confirmed when Basu arrived in the Kashmiri capital Srinagar with Bollywood leading man Sanjay Dutt to begin filming.
Andrabi was furious because Basu is known for revealing her voluptuous curves, playing vamps who scheme to steal other women’s husbands, and her long-term affair with heart-throb actor and male model John Abraham. Playing Andrabi will be her most challenging role yet.
“I don’t want to see my character played by a woman like Bipasha Basu who prefers to be seminude most of the times. She might be glamorous but she is an undignified woman and is part of the immorality spreading industry – Bollywood. I am a religious woman who believes in Islamic values, observes purdah and refrains from evil deeds. More importantly I am the only Asiya Andrabi on this earth, so let it be just one,” she said.
According to Andrabi, the director has reneged on his earlier promise to show her a copy of the script before shooting it.
Basu is reported to have walked out on the director last week, claiming she was in danger but had not been given sufficient security to feel safe. The producers have denied that any character in the film is based on Andrabi.

I am shocked at this article. How can that person affirm that in this world, there’s only two countries Muslim and Non muslim. i believe that if everybody shared this view concerning their religion, the world would be such a pity.
What a shame to say that women’s place is in the kitchen…….I really pity that woman, cause she is missing so many things in life.
I think she shouldn’t be given such attention like making a film based on her.
And she should probably start paying attention to the world around instead of staying in hers!!!!!!
After reading this article, one can conclude that Andrabi is mentally traumatized and brained washed by the conditioning of her environment.
How funny, Andrabi is a member of an organization named: Dukhtaran e Millat (Daughters of the Nation) , yet she fails to understand the true meaning of being a woman. So many women like her hide behind their burqa while creating chaos and maintaining the inequality women face in our society.
Prophet (PBUH) tried to create equality for all but the strength of the patriarchal reading of the Quran is maintained by the pure ignorance people like Andrabi. She is not GOD and has no right to judge Bipasha Basu or anyone, hiding behind the burqa has not granted her the power of being judgmental or finding another excuse to cause separation amongst religions.
Women will continue to be traumatized and wars will continue to kill the innocent due to humans inability to appreciate the beautify of every nation and every religion.
My GOD is ALLAH and he teaches me to love everyone not to judge them by gender or religion!
She stated: “I am the only Asiya Andrabi on this earth, so let it be just one,” Thank GOD for that because more evil like you would mean the reincarnation of the devil, SATAN.

This andrabi is obviously a racist and a terrorist. The fact that she can say there is only 2 worlds muslim and non muslim already shows her small mind.
Who the hell is she to judge anyone. she says basu is a undignified woman, and what about her husband who kills innocent people for his own personal agenda. Does Allah allow that.
Its sickening to see these small minded people who claim to be muslims trying to pull back other muslims to the stone age.
Maybe andrabi should go and live in a cave. She obviously has a mental problem and needs to be educated. This is what happens when people are uneducated
I hate muslims. they form the major number of violence animals among all in the world today.

well roshni i think should keep such communal views to yourself … i think there is quite a similarity between you and this lady in question . so instead of commenting about a particular religion of which you ‘KNOW NOTHING’ it would be better if u just comment like how the others are , because it is reallie making you sound like a person lacking good brains ^_^
